SHELTER Real House expands mission to house the city’s most vulnerable
the street. These are not safe places for a
woman to rebuild her life, let alone sleep, yet far too many women nd these forgotten spaces as their only options when it’s time to rest at night.
But Real House Inc. is on a mission to change that and give as many people as possible the safety and security they deserve. When CEO Shawn Jennings launched Real House in 2004, one of his rst priorities was to set up an emergency shelter for women in need of a warm place to sleep at night. The shelter program has since grown to include two shelters which house 18 women each, and the organization is in the process of opening a new halfway house for men as well. Staff say the emergency shelters provide not only a physical space in which to rest and recover, but an emotional sanctuary as well.
