and girls. He knows the names, too, of each of His children — knows your name and mine. How wonderful it is to realize that He knows us each one, and has a special place for us to serve and shine for Him! Just as the stars move about in their appointed places, so God has placed you dear boys and girls in places best suited for each of you. Some of you may live in a large city, while some of you may live in a small town. But no matter where your home is, God knows you by name, and wants you to shine for Him just where you are. The stars make a dark night beau tiful. Just so, you dear children can make the darkest place beautiful for the Lord. “ Shine, shine, just where you are, Shine, shine, just where you are; Out of the night, into the light, Shine for the Lord where you are.’1’ A TRUE STORY ABOUT A LAD & LETTER by E. Gorham, Norwich, England W e all like to receive letters, don’t we? How eagerly we look for an answer. In eastern countries, letters are generally carried by swift runners. Andrew was a runner, a na tive boy, in North Africa. One day he had to deliver a letter in a district where there were lions. Andrew was frightened, but he had given his heart to the Lord Jesus Christ, and had become a Christian, and so he kept saying to himself, “My heavenly Fa ther has sent me on this journey to deliver this letter, and He will look after me.” As Andrew was walking down the rough, grassy track, he saw in the distance two huge, tawny lions, crouching by the side of the path where he had to pass. What was he to do? If he turned and ran, they would come after him. If he went forward, they would spring on him. What do you think poor, trembling Andrew did? He knelt down right where he was, not far from the lions, and prayed to his heavenly Father to protect him. And then he said to himself, “ I must get up and forget my doubts and fears and deliver this letter.” Up he got, and walked straight past the lions. God did just the same for this faithful, trusting servant as He did for Daniel. He shut those lions’ mouths! As An drew walked past them, they sat watching him, and made no attempt to attack him. They couldn’t, because God, who made them, had sent His angel to shut their mouths. So Andrew delivered his letter safely that day.

MAKING THE UGLY BEAUTIFUL S p r in g tim e is seed -sow in g tim e. Many of you no doubt have a garden of your very own. You have carefully planted the dark brown seeds and are waiting now for the bright green blades to appear above the dark earth. What a lovely resur rection story these little plants will tell you as they grow day by day from tiny seeds to beautiful flowers. A friend gave me some bulbs at Christmas time, all packed away in moss and fiber in a pretty green dish. What ugly-brown bulbs they were! I might have said, “ Could anything beautiful come out of such ugly look ing bulbs?” But God has ways of making ugly things beautiful. The brown bulbs in their moss cov ered beds were placed in a dark closet. Soon a tiny green blade, then two, appeared, and finally a tall green stalk. After a few weeks the green dish and lily stalks were brought out into the light and sunshine. Now the stalks and leaves are guarding two lovely lily buds and I am waiting each day to see them unfold. Ugly brown bulbs changed into beautiful fragrant lilies! This is God’s way. If so great a trans formation can take place in lily bulbs, what will the transformation be when you and I are changed into His like ness! “ Beloved, now are we the sons of God, and it doth not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that, when He shall appear, we shall be like Him; for we shall see Him as He is” (I John 3:2).

I m e a n this on e: “ Twinkle, twinkle, little star, How I wonder what you are; Up above the world so high, Like a diamond in the sky.” For the past several nights, I have been enjoying God’s lovely garden of stars. As I have looked up at the countless number of twinkling lights, I have been reminded that God knows them all by name. He knows the name of the one which sheds the dimmest light, as well as of the one which shines the brightest. He made them all and placed them in their appointed orbits, or pathways, there to shine for Him on the darkest night. Our God is such a great God, boys
