NUSS TRUCK & EQUIPMENT

A COMMUNITY MINDSET One thing that Nuss is most proud is the family’s continuous goal of giving back to the community as often as possible. One unique area in which the Nuss family continues to make an impact is through the Nuss Collection, a museum of historical trucks and vehicles related to the trucking industry that Nuss has collected throughout the years. The museum celebrates the trucking industry and the tremendous impact it has made on our society throughout the years. “Our collection of trucks is open to the general public and people come from all over to see our collection and spend a couple of hours going through the space, ” Nuss says. “And we have people who will make equipment donations to add to our museum.” From vintage buses to heavy-duty construction vehicles to antique fire trucks, the Nuss Collection includes a wide range of vehicles, including those that helped build the Hoover Dam as well as the national highway system. And when Nuss is not helping run his expansive company, you can find him giving individual tours to visitors at the museum. “I just love it. I love showing people all the different trucks and vehicles and sharing our love of the trucking industry.” Recently, the Nuss Collection created a “Trucking Tribute – Dedicated to Building America” digital vault initiative to capture legacy stories about individuals’ experiences with the trucking industry. The organization is gathering stories from people who may have sold trucks, driven trucks or working with trucks in some capacity to capture stories for future generations from which future generations can learn. While the Nuss Collection is one avenue of enveloping the general public into the folds of Nuss Truck & Equipment, another is by giving back to the community through the Rochester Area Foundation.

“Several years ago, I came up with the idea that we would give each employee $100 to donate to a charity of their choice through the Rochester Area Foundation,” Nuss says. From organizations helping veterans to those helping the homeless, Nuss Truck & Equipment employees are making an impact. “It promotes goodwill and the betterment of mankind,” Nuss says. Since establishing this unique community giving initiative, Nuss Truck & Equipment, through its employees having donated about $750,000 to the donor advised funds at the Rochester Area Foundation. “I was shocked. I had no idea we had given this much over years. We don’t brag about what we give to charity, but it was wonderful to hear,” Nuss says. In addition, the company donates to food shelters and other nonprofits throughout the Rochester community. Looking ahead, Nuss is excited about the future of his company, as his family members continue to lead the charge, making the day-to-day decisions about the company, its products, employees and overall growth strategies. “I don’t know why I’d ever retire,” Nuss says. “As long as they let me come in and help out, like giving tours at the Nuss Collection, that would be great. It’s been a good run, but I want to be a part of it in whatever small way I can.”
