HUNDREDS FLOCK TO VANKLEEK HILL GARLIC FEST

The strong smell of garlic was in the air in Vankleek Hill on September 8. “It’s our second annual Garlic Festival,” said Vankleek Hill and District Lions Club member Stuart Hood. “We’ve had a very good turnout this year, better than the last.” Several different purveyors of garlic-based items displayed their product within the boards of the ice hockey rink. Admissions to the event were on a donation basis, with the funds collected going towards several local charities, such as the food bank and the local library, amongst others. “We have 12 vendors this year, whereas last year, we had nine,” stated Hood. “So, it’s growing in popularity. Our vendors come from all over Eastern Ontario and Western Quebec.” A crowd favorite this year was black gar- lic. Buyers lined up Sharon Bartlett’s Garlic Pantry , in order to get a taste of the unusual ingredient. “The reception to this sort of garlic has been great,” she said. “There’s been a lot of traffic. It’s exciting.”
Une centaine de résidents de Vankleek Hill et des environs ont pris part à la deuxième édition du festival de l’ail. Organisé par le Vankleek Hill and District Lions Club, l’évènement sert non seulement à se procurer des ingrédients à base d’ail, mais aussi à amasser des fonds, qui seront ensuite distribué à diverses organisations à but non lucratif, telles la bibliothèque et la banque alimentaire. Ci-haut, on reconnait Sharon Bartlett, copropriétaire de Garlic Pantry, qui offrait cette année de l’ail noir. —photo Francis Racine
LOTS TAKE PART IN PRESCOTT COUNTY PLOW MATCH DESPITE RAIN
Light rain didn’t stop the many participants of the 61 st Prescott County Plow Match, held at Vankleek Hill’s Wandlynn Farm, owned by Craig and Andrew Barton. The event welcomed several participants, amongst them, 10-year-old Jack Santerre (pictured) who, along with his father, took part in the event. Participants plowed certain areas of a field and were judged on their work. Eleven categories were represented during the match, which included a new contestant’s class, a ladies’ class and a horse-pulled class, amongst others. —photo Francis Racine
