members assisted as a volunteer re

brigade to help control an outbreak of forest res and gained a commendation from the re chief for the university. In a second incident, they helped extinguish a barn re on the university’s campus. They received a letter thanking them from the governor of New Hampshire.

Beta Upsilon (Boulder, CO) Obtained a 1924 Seagrave fire engine after it was retired by the Denver Fire Department. Chapter members said with the truck, they would have no trouble winning the traditional University of Colorado water fight. Delta Mu (Southern Mississippi) Purchased a 1927 American LaFrance 70-foot fire engine with hook and ladder attachment. The City of Jackson decommissioned the truck in 1957. In 1962 the ladder truck was replaced

by a completely remodeled 1927 fire engine. Delta Upsilon (Stetson) Acquired an antique 1921 American LaFrance fire truck. The chain driven pumper had a top speed of 80 MPH with 105 horsepower. It was previously owned by the DeLand Fire Department. Epsilon Gamma (Texas Tech) Their 1923 six-wheeler fire engine was dubbed “Big Red” and dedicated to promoting Texas Tech spirit. It was purchased

from alumni and student donations, and no chapter funds were spent. 1960 Alpha Eta (Florida) Called their fire truck the “Phi Truck.” It carried the cheerleaders in the Homecoming parade. The chapter appealed to alumni for money to keep the truck running. Alpha Delta (Georgia Tech) Purchased a fire truck in New York and had it shipped to the house in Atlanta. It promoted interest and publicity for PIKE.
