Dillon Osborne - “The Importance of Data Analytics in the Accounting/Financial Field” (session 15) The overall picture of the accounting field is that of people who do your taxes and tell you to pay the government a specified amount of dollars that you owe, right? What if I told you the accounting field is now considered in the same sentence as other STEM projects and curriculum like sciences, technologies, and so forth? The reason is one thing that is taking the world by storm: Data Analytics. This paper will explain the positive effects of data analytics and its implementation in the accounting field. Big data is becoming more prevalent in everyday business, even more so in everyday life. Congress passed a bill to include accounting curriculum in STEM education since the accounting profession has become driven by technology and data analytics. The top accounting firms in the world understand the impact big data has on business, and implementing it into the accounting field is the first step towards helping students specialize in an area of accounting, to complete mundane tasks, and introduce new skills to accounting professionals
