St. Bernard Parish’s anniversary Members of St. Bernard Parish are preparing to celebrate the 150th anniversary of their church next year. In anticipation of the event, a special committee is collecting old photographs and sto- ries for inclusion in an anniversary souvenir book. Anecdotes and photos of all parish communities are wanted, including Riceville, Fenaghvale, St. Amour, and Sandown. Of especial interest would be memorabilia and photos of homes and farms that no longer exist in the area, and other past local businesses as cheese factories and blacksmith shops. Send photos and stories to Fournier150@ yahoo.ca or phone Roxanne Ryan at 613-524- 5394 or Patrick Sloan at 613-525-5215. – Gregg Chamberlain He lived at home with his family: his pa- rents, Jason and Jacquelyn, and his older brother, Sebastien. He attended École Paul VI in Hawkesbury, and was described as a happy childwithmany friends. He died June 9 2014 as a result of complications related to his epilepsy. As a memorial tribute, the Chenier family bought land for the site of the proposed park and gained the support of the township for a fundraising drive, including development of a sponsorship program. “We’re still actively fundraising for the play structures,” stated Jason Chenier, “and With arrival at last of spring, work begins on Sa- cha’s Park in L’Orignal, with a little extra volunteer help from two local construction companies. Émile Foucault Excavation Inc. and Hawkes- bury Transport and Excavation Inc., both based out of Brownsburg-Chatham, are donating lands- caping services to help build the planned accessible playground project for the use of children and adults, in both Champlain Township and other commu- nities in Prescott-Russell. Owners for each of the companies expressed strong support for the community recreation project launched in memory of Sacha Chenier. “It seems, so often, we only hear of the nega- tive things going on in our community,” sta- tedColette Foucault, Hawkesbury Transport owner. “It’s heartwarming to see a positive project like Sacha’s Park that we can all rally around.” “It’s nice to be involved in a great commu- nity project like this,” stated Émile Foucault, owner of Émile Foucault Excavation, “and we are happy to do our part by donating our services.” “We are thrilled to have the support of thesewell-respected local companies,” stated Jason Chenier, project spokesman. “The do- nation of their services will save us thousands of dollars that can instead go towards the purchase of additional inclusive playground equipment.” Site preparationhas begun on the Sacha’s Park site, with completion in autumn of the initial phase of the project. Located at the Place La Seigneurie development in L’Orignal, Sacha’s Park is planned as a universal-access playground for the use of all children, inclu- ding those with mobility or other physical challenges. The Chenier family launched the project, with the support of Champlain Township, in memory of 11-year-old Sacha Chenier of L’Orignal. He was born blind, epileptic, and with severe cognitive delays due to cerebral palsy. Confined to a wheelchair for most of his life, young Sacha required assistance for his daily care and was unable to do many simple and basic tasks without help.

would encourage local businesses and community groups to contact us if theywould like to be involved inhelping create a placewhere every childwill have an equal chance to play.” Details on possible sponsorship and other sup- portmethods are available at SACHAsPARK@gmail. com.
