To His Praise O God, most high and holy Whose dwelling-place has been From everlasting ages In majesty unseen; We praise the wondrous mercy That brought Thee from on high, The angels’ highest honour Was in Thy light to shine; Yet earthly echoes answer’d Thy God-forsaken cry, When Thou, the Lord of glpryjljt In sinners’ stead didst die. ’Twas pefect satisfaction For all the Law’s demands, ’Twas full complete redemption From sin’s defiling bands; O Christ, upon Thy ransomed No guilt can ever lie, Since Thou their place hast taken And in their stead didst dies. , F. The Greatness of the Angelic. Host W E used to wonder,” w r i t e s Charles F. Reitzel, ‘'how many angels the Lord had at His command. So one day in reading the Gospels we hap pened upon the question propounded by Jesus when the mob,: armed with swords and staves, came out to take Him. The sight, as our reader will recall, was too much for Peter’s flesh. He smote Mal- chus, the servant pf the high priest, with a sword, and cut off his ear. Jesus healed the ear and ordered Peter to put up his sword into its sheath, and then added these words, “Thinkest thou that I cannot now pray to My Father, and He shall presently give Me more than twelve le gions of angels” (Matt. 26:53)? We) learned that a Roman legion was six thousand, and more than twelve legions would be more than twelve times six thousand or over seventy-two thousands. And every one of those more than sev enty-two thousands of angels were ready to do the Lord’s bidding and that at a moment’s notice. David-in calling up.on the angels to “bless the Lord” gives also a description of their readiness to do the I.ord’s will. Says he,3fBless,th'e Lord, 'ye His angels that excel in strength, that do His commandments, hearkening unto the voice of His word” (Ps. 103:20). But when we turned to Revelation 5:11 we discovered that there were “ten thousand times ten thousand, and thousands -of thousands” of angelic beings. • And great as this number is, yet it is not beyond hu man computation. But in looking at He brews 12:22 we found a record of an "innumerable company of angels:” And strange as it may seem, not one of.this vast and mighty host has eyer been sent or delegated to preach the ’Gospel of God’s grace to a single lost sinner.” E—o— 1 Two Anonymous Books W. WlLEMAN T HERE are two books in the New Testament that do not bear the sig natures of the human writers: the Acts of the Apostles and the Epistle to the He brews. The Acts of the Apostles contains the record of the operations of the Holy Spirit during the thirty-three years fol lowing the Lord’s ascension; and in that book the Holy Spirit is distinctly men tioned fifty-three times. It is, therefore, singularly appropriate that the penman should suggest his identity without ap pending his signature. It is a matter of common knowledge to every Bible student that in the Epistle to the Hebrews the Holy Spirit is men tioned seven times. But in three of these seven places the Holy Spirit expressly lays claim to be the Divine Author of the
