God is Our Refuge When Luther and. his friend Melanch- thon were depressed Luther would say, “Come, let us sing the 46th Psalm, ‘God is our refuge and our strength, a very present help in trouble.’” And never since the world began has God forsaken those who have trusted in Him. ‘ —o— '■ Trial the School of Trust “What time I am afraid, I will trust in thee” (Psa. 56:3). We shall never forget a remark that George Mueller once made to a gentle man who had asked him the best way to have strong faith. “The only way,”, replied the patriarch of faith, “to learn strong faith is to endure great trials. I have learned my faith by ^standing firm amid severe testings.” I Offer\bu 1 $15 Make $15 a day selling this won derful new household article that has taken the country by storm. -------------------- - ngg)?g f Book Table 1 Q) & KGfr?____ - -----—i c < s S)5 m ; The Gospel in Modern Poetry, by "Dr. Hugh T. Kerr is a book in which Dr. Kerr has done something that is very at tractive and effective. Not only has he called attention to certain striking mod ern poems but he has interpreted them in such, a way as to make them illustrative of the great fundamental doctrine of grace. We have not read any book in recent days .that is so happy in using current literature in the preaching of the great truths of the Gospel of Jesus Christ; The author quoted Dr. Henry Drummond as saying that “the business of the preacher is not to prove things but to make people see things.” The book itself is a very happy illustration of this very thing. Dr. Kerr had a conversation with the late Sir William Robertson Ni- coll in which Dr. Nicoll'said that if he had in his keeping the training of young men for the Gospel ministry he would cause them to study carefully Spurgeon’s sermons and the Muses. In this little book the author shows that he has not only studied modern poetry but he glows with the evangelical light which has made Spurgeon’s sermons immortal. (J. M. Maclnnis) “Day after Day”, is a new Manual of Devotions for Family Use, compiled by the Board of Christian Education of the Presbyterian Church, being a page each day for thirteen weeks. The Scripture selections are carefully chosen with a view to their value for devotional use in the family, and are arranged in the or der of their occurrence in the Bible, with the exception of the passages from the Gospels, which are arranged in the order of their occurrence in “Harmony of the Gospels.” Appended to the Scripture se lections and prayers for the mornings of thirteen weeks will be found a brief treasury of prayers for special occasions of family life. “A prayerless home is a powerless home. A household protected by prayer cannot drift far from God. Therefore if we would have our ,homes right with God, and our children kept from drifting, we must pray not only for our loved ones but with them, and do it every day.” (Pres. Bd. of Christian Education) 75c (T.C.H.) —o— Rules of Life for Boys and Girls, by Marion Colman, is a series of lessons written for actual classes under the au thor’s direction.
