Biola “Best Books” Time is the best test of a book. There are few books written today that are known longer than one or two years after publication. So, it is with a great deal of satisfaction, that we can tell you of the ever increasing sale of the following books. From just a few hundred copies the first year we published them, these books have sold in increas ingly large numbers, until 1926 saw their sale well up into the thousands. If you have never read them order at once and you will understand why they have kept alive and sold in larger num bers year after year. , upon it by man. He looks, not at the visible results, but at the fidelity of the worker and the character of his work. There is a day of exceeding joy in store for the lonely ploughman: in the great ingathering, though he may not bring home the grain, he shall see that much of its abundance is due to his patient toil; and he shall be rewarded indeed for his loneliness and pain when the Master says to him: “Well done, good and faithful servant; enter thou-into the joy of thy Lord.”

F ebruary 16. “Pray without ceasing-.”—1 ThessF5'&7.

“IMPOSSIBLE!” cries one, “the injunction may be all very well for a monk or a recluse ; it cannot be carried out in this work-a-day world. Prayer is right enough in its place, but we cannot be always on our knees, we have something else to do.” Yes! and just because they have something else to do, they ought- to “pray without ceasing,” that they may -be enabled to do it aright. But they need not be always on their knees : “Prayer is the soul’s sincere desire, Uttered or unexpressed” ; it is not a collocation of words (though words may often express it) ; it is an attitude of the mind and heart. “Prayer is the burden of a. sigh, The falling of a tear; The upward glancing of an eye When none but God is near.” To pray is to have earth’s end of heaven’s telephone always in the spirit s hand, that we may never cease to be in direct com munication with God. This ;will not hinder our business or’ our pleasure. Let such-a position of the soul-become habitual, and we shall be saved, strengthened, sanctified, kept, amid all the trials arid dangers of our life. THIS was the earliest of the Devil’s lies,, flung in the face of the Almighty. Unhappily • for us,’*our first' parents were deceived by it; hence all our sins and wOes, Satan is never tired of repeating this primal untruth. It is an affirmation with which he specially beguiles the young (Adam and Eve were mere chil dren in experience). “Do not be afraid of the consequences Of sin, ye shall not surely die.” Those to whom he speaks know quite well the Divine declaration as to the penalty of wrong doing; nay, in many cases; they know that men .and women have died, physically, morally, spiritually, as. the result of sin; “but” whispers the Tempter, “it shall not be' so with you. You can abandon the evil course in time to escape the penalty. God loves you too well to inflict the rigour of the Law. You shall not surely die. Alas 1for those who listen to the insidious voice and give the rein to their pleasures and their sins. As inevitably as the night follows the setting of the sun, so surely does death (in some form or other) wait upon every breach of the Divine commandment, m the end it shall prove to be like apples of Sodom and turn to ashes and wormwood in the rriouth. God help each one of us to say: “Get thee behind me, Satan, for-thou art a liar,” when he whispers-: “Ye shall not surely die.” -, F ebruary 17. “Ye shallnot surely die.”—Gen. 3:4.
