MAST ER OF THE LOWER SCHOOL’ S REPORT JOHN I NGHAM , MAST ER OF THE LOWER SCHOOL
The 2018/19 year will be remembered with much fondness. The introduction of 135 children was quite a challenge and learning names became a priority for all staff! The new Pre-Prep was ready and opened on time. The younger children soon fitted in and have brought extra levels of enthusiasm to life in the Lower School. Even without the new Pre-Prep pupils, the Lower School was at a record high number. After setting a new record for awards at 11+ for the Senior School last year, we managed to beat it with 15 awards, including three Academic Scholars. The Maths teams continued their all-conquering success of last year and managed to reach the National Final of the UK Maths Quiz competition. They finished an amazing 3rd and were, in fact, leading until the final round! We enjoyed some excellent sporting success. The Under 11A Cricket Team won the County Cup and the Girls Indoor Hockey Team beat all comers at Langley to win the cup once again. Undoubtedly, our most successful teams this year came from skiing where we won both the Under 12 boys and Under 10 mixed East Region titles. Our Outdoor Classroom and Allotments both received awards. After much hard work by the Eco Council, the school was awarded the coveted Green Flag for excellence in environmental action and learning.

many years at the Lower School. Mrs Farrow will be taking up a new post in Dubai with Brighton College and Miss Brugger is to become the Deputy Head at Christchurch Primary School in Ilford. They go with my most grateful thanks and best wishes for their exciting new posts. The Norvicensian magazine is a fantastic record of the life of the Lower School. I am especially grateful to Richard Love who has compiled and edited this excellent record for the final time. When he began this for the Lower School, he managed just 12 pages… how times have changed!
The Summer Concert this year featured 178 performers and six different musical groups. The highlight being the String Trio of Tristan, Caio and Julian, who performed at the standard we would normally expect of Sixth Formers. There are now four choirs at the school and we all enjoyed hearing them sing at different times of the year, with the judge at the Norfolk and Norwich Music Festival, after hearing the Chamber Choir sing, managing just one word of feedback… “wow!”. We said fond farewells to Mrs Farrow and Miss Brugger, who have both worked for
