TRENDWATCH: WHAT’S HOT FOR 2025? The New Year makes a great time for change. We re-evaluate.We reset. And we go again. But if your resolution is to refresh or redecorate your home, what interior design trends should you watch out for? Our resident expert, Steve Hird, Director of showhome interior design specialist Edward Thomas Interiors, keeps you in the know…

#1 – COLOUR DRENCHING This is one of our favourite emerging paint trends and is all about being confident, bold and unapologetic about colour. You can opt for a single colour and “drench” the room, including the ceiling, furniture, woodwork (skirting boards, window and door frames) and floor, or create a tonal room. By this I mean using shades of the same colour across the room. It’s equally playful but creates a more elevated, sophisticated look. The 2025 Dulux Colour of the Year, “True Joy”, is an uplifting, zesty shade of bold yellow that would work perfectly for colour drenching. And of course, the real bonus of this trend is its ability to add instant impact at low cost! #2 – EARTHY & AUTUMNAL SHADES Colours set to take centre stage in 2025 are those from the rich, earthy, autumnal family. Think burnt orange, rust, plum, and any of the wine reds. Speaking of red, the unexpected red theory that went viral on TikTok this year, is set to be eclipsed. We’re no longer going to be seeing flashes of red but rather, whole rooms with deep, rich reds as their primary colour. Another earthy shade we expect to see more of is dark chocolate brown. Instead of using black for contrast, chocolate adds a more luxurious, warm look and is an interesting new take on drawing inspiration from nature that doesn’t rely on green.

a popular finish but expect to find textured wallpapers, decorative plaster finishes, dado and picture rails, even concrete wall art. Texture will also appear in lighting such as wicker lamps or pendant shades made from woven raffia that will create interesting and soft light patterns. #6 – PORTABLE LIGHTING No longer limited for outdoor use or as a work tool, portable lighting is set to brighten home interiors in 2025. In rooms or spaces with limited sockets, portable rechargeable lights are a game changer. Not only are they more sustainable but they can help create different lighting to suit any task. High street shops including Dunelm, IKEA, Next Home and John Lewis have some great portable options. #7 – CURVES AND WAVES Curves, waves, scalloped and rounded edges will remain popular, especially in furniture and seating to establish a softer aesthetic and bring people together. We’re also seeing these non-linear designs in mirrors, light fittings and wall treatments, where colour paint blocks are used to create arches or emphasise alcoves. Expect to see more sculptural shaping and patterns that echo the natural form in decorative objects such as vases and ornaments too. #8 – ARTS AND CRAFTS One style set for a resurgence in 2025 is the Arts and Crafts movement. Habitat recently

#3 – STRIPES Stripes made a comeback in the summer and have only grown in popularity. One of the most versatile patterns, stripes can be used playfully or classically and offer a super- effective illusion for making rooms look longer, taller and more spacious. Stripes also won’t be limited to accessories, we expect to see them take over upholstery, curtains and wallpapers, from elegant ticking stripes to bolder, block or candy versions. #4 – SENSORIAL DESIGN This trend links to self-care and wellbeing and focuses on styling to appeal to all the senses, not just sight. The idea is to create an immersive environment, somewhere that makes you feel safe, peaceful and relaxed. Texture, scent, sound and lighting are key, so introduce fabrics with boucle or chunky wool blends, add diffusers or aromatic candles, and make lighting adjustable to match mood. #5 – UNEXPECTED TEXTURE Continuing the sensorial idea, watch out for texture in unexpected places, particularly wallcoverings. Wood panelling will remain
