Gossip is the art of saying nothing in a way that leaves practically nothing unsaid. * * * THE TESTIMONY OF ONE A Christian soldier went to his chaplain one day with a problem. He declared, “Last night, before turning in, I knelt down by my cot and prayed. Some of the fellows laughed as though it were a joke. Others threw things at me. What should I do?" The chaplain thoughtfully suggested, “Well, sup pose you defer your prayers until af ter you have jumped into bed. Then silently you can lift your heart to God.” A few days later when he met the soldier the Chaplain wanted to know how things had worked out. The God-fearing youth replied, “Sir, I tried it two or three nights, but I began to think that it looked as if I was denying my Saviour. So I knelt down and prayed like I had at the first. As far as the other fellows are concerned, none of them laughed at me any more. In fact, 15 of us pray together every night.” How wonder ful to trust the power that God wants to give us through the indwelling pres ence of His Holy Spirit. From Joshua in the Old Testament we read, “Be ye therefore very courageous to keep and to do all that is written in the book of the law of Moses, that ye turn not aside therefrom to the right hand or to the left” (Joshua 23:6). * * * It is better to look ahead and prepare than to look back and regret. * * * MAN'S FOLLY How foolish it is for man to rebuff the guidance of God in His call to sal vation. A king in ancient times pre pared a great feast for his noblemen and friends. The day of the feast was to be set aside as a holiday with out door festivities and drunken orgies. But when the time came, the weather turned out to be so stormy that noth ing could be done except to postpone the entire event. This so enraged the pagan king that he commanded his bowmen to shoot their arrows at heav en in defiance of their mythological

When the bowmen car ried out the king’s command, their arrows fell far short of heaven but rather came back to earth descending upon their own heads, and killing many. The Bible tells us that GocTa Spirit will not always strive with men. From the Psalms we read, “He that sitteth in the heavens shall laugh, the Lord shall hold them in derision.” But blessed are all they that put their trust in Him. * * * Some ofthe best preaching is done by holding your tongue. * * * GOD'S PROMISES A southern minister spoke force fully on claiming and clinging to the promises of God. “Brethren, there are three points. Firstly, it means to take hold; secondly, to hold on; and thirdly and lastly, never to let go.” This should certainly be the persuasion-of our hearts as we seek to win others to Christ. This is the type of train ing our students receive here in the five schools of Biola. We offer more Bible today than at any time in our history. In our college program stu dents may select from H different majors. Large 80 page catalogues are always available. * * * Truth is often not so hard to find as is the courage to face it. 24
