which records the first thirty years of Christian work and testimony, we find seven instances of angelic inter vention: (1) two of them instructed THE WAY, THE TRUTH, THE LIFE Where is the way? This world is but a maze. Where millions wander without help or light, I am aweary of the world's false ways, Show me the way, for I would walk aright! Be still, my soul, a sweet voice speaks to thee "I AM THE WAY, look up and follow Me." Where is the truth? I cannot find it here, All is confusion in this world below; Oh! tell me who will make it plain and clear, Show me the truth, for I the truth would know, Be still, my soul, a sweet voice speaks to thee: "I AM THE TRUTH, look up and follow Me." Say, where is life? It is not here I know, Oh, who hath power the priceless boon to- give? All here is sorrow, sin and death and woe; Say where is life? for surely I would liVe! Be still, my soul, a sweet voice speaks to thee: "I AM THE LIFE, look up and follow Me." All that I sought, Lord, I have found in Thee, Thou art the way, the truth, the life Thou art: All that I ask for Thou hast given me, Well may I trusf Thee, trust Thy loving heart: Low at Thy feet adoring do I fall, Own Thee my Lord, my best Be loved, my all. the wondering disciples (Chap t e r 1:10-11); (2) another liberated the imprisoned apostles (5:19); (3) one
of them led Philip to an earnest in quirer (8:26); (4) another came to Cornelius in his perplexity (10:3-7); (5) another broke Peter’s fetters and set him free (12:7-10); (6) one of them executed God’s judgment on Herod (12:23); (7) another assured Paul of deliverance from danger (27:23). These are practical illustra tions of what is affirmed in Hebrews 1:14. May it not be that in our re coil from the idolatrous system which worships angels, we have gone to the other extreme and ignored their ex istence altogether? According to the Scriptures, nothing is more certain than that these holy messengers of God are concerned about our material well-being; just as other Scriptures make it clear that the Holy Spirit is concerned about our spiritual well being. “It is a marvelous truth, full of sweetness, yet full of solemnity,” says Mrs. Needham, “that these in numerable hosts of heaven are en listed to serve the saints on earth. The prophetic ladder let down from heaven, upon which Jacob saw the an gels of God ascending and descending, has been appropriated by Jesus unto Himself.
