No one enjoys being ill. He may see so many things about him which need to be done. While flat on his back there is nothing he can do about them. Sometimes God has to put us on our backs that we might look up into His face. Sometimes we have to be cursed before we can be crowned. The Bible never promises favorable outward circumstances but rather it gives us the blessed assur ance of inward tranquility and peace of heart. That is why the Scripture tells us, “Is any among you afflicted? Let him pray. Is any merry? Let him sing Psalms” (James 5:13). * * * Many a man who is burning with enthusi asm often embarrasingly finds out that he's actually not so hot. * * * OVER THE WALL John Wesley was talking one day with a man who expressed his doubt of God’s goodness. He said, “I don’t know what I will ever do with all my worries and troubles.” It is said that Wesley at that moment noticed a cow looking over a stone wall. He asked, “Do you know why that cow is trying to see over the top?” The troubled companion had no answer and Wesley smilingly responded, “I’ll tell you why. I t is because she cannot see through it. It was the next day when one of the parents phoned the teacher to say that before her little boy had gone to bed that night he had prayed very strangely by saying, “Dear Jesus, help me Lord, to be a man. And when I get to be a man, make me a missionary so that I the white circle bigger.” That sum marizes the purpose of the ministries of Biola through these past more than 56 years. We train dedicated young people to go to the ends of the earth where they will proclaim the un searchable riches of our Lord Jesus Christ, and thereby that the white circle may increase until that blessed day when our Saviour calls us to be with Himself. * * * Yesterday is a cancelled check; tomorrow is a promisory note; today is ready cash, so spend it wisely for the Lord. * * * BLESSING IN TRIALS We all enjoy a little diversity in our lives. Things can become very “hum drum" if a varied pattern is not injected into daily experience. We like different things to occur in our lives, but generally, only when these are self - imposed. When something
