there arose a great storm o f wind, and the waves beat into the ship, so that it was now full. And he was in the hinder part o f the ship, asleep on a pillow: and they awake him, and say unto him, Master, carest thou not that we perish? And he arose, and rebuked the wind, and said unto the sea, Peace, be still. And the wind ceased, and there was a great calm.” No wonder His disciples exclaimed, “What manner o f man is this, that even the wind and the sea obey him ?” We look again, and we see a man with hell let loose in his heart. He is the maniac o f Gadara, “ who had his dwelling among the tombs; and no man could bind him, no, not with chains.” Into this storm-swept life came Jesus, speaking the word of deliverance with infinite authority, “ Come out o f the man, thou unclean spirit” ; and then see “ him that was possessed with the devil, and had the legion, sitting, and clothed, and in his right mind.” Here is the Creator at work in His creation, “ and all men did marvel.” The Creator, who had created life in its myriad forms, cannot be thwart ed by death. We witness Him, stand ing by the grave o f Lazarus, four days dead; and, with the calm dignity o f deity, He claims “ I am the resur rection, and the life.” Then, with sublime serenity, unruffled by any thought o f possible failure, “ He cried with a loud voice, Lazarus, come forth, and he that was dead came forth.” No marvel that our Lord’s strictest critics were nonplused by the clear proofs o f His Godhead— “ God manifest in the flesh,” and were won to Him— “ Then many o f the Jews which . . . had seen the things which Jesus did, believed on him.” Not only incomparable in creation, and in His creation, but the amazing unfoldings o f the glories o f Christ in the first chapter o f Colossians, re-

T HE glory o f Christ alone can counteract the gloom o f the world’s darkness. With the de cline o f the age, there is discernible on every hand an increasing lack of spirituality, with a corresponding coldness, among Christians; and, at the same time an increasing indiffer ence and hardness on the part of those who know not Christ. “ Thou art lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot” surely describes our own day and generation, and urges upon us the great need fo r a heart devoted to the contemplation of the Person o f Christ, that we may walk in the light as He is in the light. The book of Revelation shows Him as the One in the midst, and this, to unite and unify His people. “ And in the midst o f the seven candlesticks one like unto the Son o f man.” This is in harmony with our Lord’s assur ance, “ where two or three are gath ered together in my name, there am I in the midst o f them.” He is in the midst to make Himself known to our hearts, to lighten our darkness, to answer our questions, to dissolve our doubts, to solve our problems, and turn our gaze upon His own glorious Person.

Christ Incomparable In Creation

Oh, for an ardent, intense, and con sistent longing to know more of Christ! As we see Him filling all Scripture, we behold Him as the Cre ator of all. “ In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.” In that magnificent setting forth of the glories o f Christ in Colossians, we read, “ For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or domin ions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him.” Our hearts join in this grand acclaim o f Him who was One with the Father before the creation o f the vast creation; and who could say, “ I and the Father are one.” The Apostle John, faithful exponent of the deity o f our blessed Lord, affirmed by the Holy Spirit, “ All things were made by him ; and without him was not any thing made that was made.” As we witness the Creator in the scene o f His creation, moving majes tically toward Calvary, our hearts are blessed. The storm may rage, but naught can disturb His peace. “ And
