Here is a shopping list, however, many of us should try to fill for our own spiritual needs. “I must go shopping today because I seem to be out of self-respect. I need to exchange some self-righteousness l picked up the other day for hum ility which is less expensive and certainly wears much better. I want to look at some tolerance, too. It’s being used for wraps this season. Someone showed me some interesting samples of peace. Then, I seem to be a little low on pa tience. M y fam ily notices it, I’m sure. I might try on that important garment of long suffering they’re displaying this season. / don’t know whether it w ill fit me; it’s been so long since I’ve had it on. Oh, yes, I mustn’t forget to have my sense of appreciation mended, and to look around for some inexpen sive every day goodness. My, it’s sur prising how quickly one’s stock of that is depleted. Yes, it looks like I need to go shopping today. There are many things l lack.” An interesting shopping list found as spiritual produce in the fru it of the Spirit: “Love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness and temperance.” * * * If you want your neighbors to see what Christ is like, let them see what He can make you like. * * * GARIBALDI IS COMING Every country tn the world has an interesting hero of its past. Usually it’s one who has delivered his people from an enemy oppressor. In the history of Italy the name of one courageous man, Garibaldi, stands out. His people had become prisoners of evil riders. They were beaten in the streets of their own towns, cast into stone dungeons, and often killed before the eyes of their loved ones. Those who remained, cheered each others? hearts w ith the declaration, sometimes only a whisper, “Garibaldi is coming!" Some of the en slaved went out at night to paint on walls and pavements the familiar watchword, “Garabaldi is coming.” 32
TWELVE MILLION DOSES The Santa Monica Evening Outlook reports that people in the United States consume one million pounds of sleep ing tablets every year. (Not one m il lion tablets but one m illion pounds!) Think how many tablets would go to make up a pound. The statement goes on to declare that each night American people swallow twelve m illion doses w ith some of these doses containing many more than a single pill. Every night, 12 million doses! Tensions are relaxed artificially but only temporar ily. Troubles are merely postponed. Peace of mind comes not through a pill, but through the person of the Lord Jesus Christ. This is the message Biola students daily proclaim around the world carrying forth the ministry of the Gospel. . . . On the straight and narrow path, the traffic is all one way, * * * THE SECRET OF GIVING Love that is hoarded moulds at last, Until we know some day The only thing we've ever had Is what we give away.
