Issue 3 April

Grief, I've discovered, is not a linear path but rather a winding road filled with unexpected turns and moments of reflection. Grief is a wave of emotion and in order to survive you must ride each and every wave as they come. I try to be mindful of the choices I make and how I want to move forward. It's important to acknowledge that some days will be harder than others, and that's perfectly okay. In these times, leaning on support systems, whether they be friends, family, or support groups, can provide a sense of comfort and understanding. It’s also important to try and find what makes you, you, again. Sharing stories and memories can honor the loved one lost while fostering a sense of connection with others can be helpful but finding what you enjoy is just as important.

I've also found solace in small, everyday joys—things that may have once seemed insignificant but now serve as gentle reminders of life's beauty. Whether it's the warmth of the sun on my face, the sound of laughter, or even watching the sunset. I have learned that embracing these moments helps create a new tapestry of life, woven with threads of hope and a newfound sense that my spirit is always by my side taking new adventures with me. She is the guiding light in my everyday life now and I welcome it at every chance I can take. Ultimately, my journey through grief is about finding balance—between remembering all the good times we shared and showing my other children it's ok to have happiness. It’s about allowing oneself to feel deeply while also nurturing the strength to keep moving forward. That is how and why the Gabby Petito Foundation was born! Turning our pain into purpose.
