April and May were exciting months at the Yacht Club. The Prom on April 2 was a delightful departure from the music of today and more of a stroll down memory lane. The decorations of crepe paper and pink carnations were reminiscent of the 60s and 70s. Kudos to the decorating team of Alice Jobe, Cloe and Ed Gerri, Val and Ken Bilbrey, Deb and Bob Melges and Jon Holt. Before you plan your summer escape, don't miss the hit of the season....Hats and Horses. This is the Yacht Club's s salute to the Kentucky Derby on May 7, and the proceeds from the racing forms benefit the Mariners Fund. There will be mint juleps, a fabulous Kentucky dinner, world-class hats and hat contest prizes. The prize money is contributed by Gillian Hamer and will be $500 for first place; $300 for second and $200 for third place. Angela Holt The summer season at the club will be great fun. Mark your calendars for an Independence Day Picnic on July 1. There will be dancing at the Burgee bar, a trivia contest, and other game nights all leading up to a Labor Day Luau. Just to give you heads-up, our Welcome Back 'Homecoming' event on October 29 will provide the setting to dress as a sports jock, a cheerleader, a professor...or just wear the tee shirt that touts your favorite team. Make sure to pack your team spirit when heading back to Marco Island Yacht Club.
