the preaching of the W ord was central. The H oly Spirit works through the Word in bringing salvation (Rom. 10:17), and in producing holiness (Acts 20:32). It could be safely said that all of the writers of the Bible books suffered for their obedience to the H oly Spirit. This was also true of John who wrote the Gospel that bears his name, the three Epistles near the end of the New Testa ment and the book of the Revelation. Note the teaching o f Rev. 1:9-11. It is right that we should remember with pride as well as sorrow the heroic fighting and dying of our military, naval and air force personnel. But in our book

of remembrance ought also to be the names of those brave soldiers of the cross who have risked limb and life for the cause of Christ. Missionaries are without doubt among the bravest people on earth, and the whole world owes them a debt we shall never be able to repay. Let us think about missions and missionaries to day. STUDY QUESTIONS 1. W h y should every Christian be mis sionary-minded and missionary-hearted? (John 3:16; Luke 19:10; Mark 15:16; Matt, 28:19,20.) 2. The book of Acts is the record of the witness of the early church. This book indicates how the church obeyed the commission of our Lord as He gives it in Acts 1:8. The Apostle Paul was chosen of God to bear witness to the Gentile world, and to open the door for missions to the “ uttermost part of the earth.” What kind of men made up the leadership of the church in Antioch? (Acts 13:1.) 7. What were these men doing when the first missionary journey of Paul was launched? (v. 2.) 8. W h o was it that called the servants of God to missionary work? (v. 2.) 9.
