Our Featured Artist: Maud Koch
Maud Koch was born and raised on Long Island New York. She received a full scholarship to The School of Visual Arts in NYC where her study of the human figure began. Maud moved to Tucson in 1977
The Drawing Studio is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, creative learning organization that brings art and the benefits of creating art to the entire community. The Drawing Studio offers affordable fee-based and free classes and workshops, hosts events and exhibits, and fosters awareness of the positive effects of creativity on individuals. The mission is to inspire people of all ages and backgrounds to embrace art practice as a pathway to person growth and healthy community. PCOA and The Drawing Studio proudly partner to feature original work by older artists in Pima County in Never Too Late , celebrating and showcasing the creativity of older adults in our community.
and worked at the US Postal Service for thirty years. She discovered The Drawing Studio back when the nonprofit was on South 6th Ave. Maud has been taking classed at TDS ever since! She has been a regular participant in the Open Studio (live model) program for years, and now has become the volunteer Open Studio monitor on Monday evenings. Maud transfers the drawings from these live model sessions to canvas and then paints the figure in oil. She has an extensive collection of succulents
(about 230 separate species) and paints the blooms from them. Maud publishes a calendar of flower paintings every year. She works in oil, pastel, watercolor, charcoal and also sculpts in clay.
