ARE YOU LISTENING? My Podcast Is Out!

JANUARY 2023

Last year, we added a podcast studio to the Atlanta Divorce Law Group office, and every week, I sit down with ADLG managing partner Shawna Woods to record an episode. We call our show the “Happily Ever After Divorce” podcast, and we dive into the immense emotional and psychological issues surrounding divorce.

growth, you need to understand your consciousness, emotions, cultural framework, and the psychology behind your choices and relationships. Shawna and I dig into all of that! We are not being psychiatrists or therapists, but we use our personal and professional experience to raise thought-provoking ideas and that may help challenge our listeners’ limiting belief systems. I have an international and multicultural background from growing up in Iran and Sweden and raising three children in a long-term marriage. Shawna became a single mom at a very young age and has overcome incredible obstacles to achieve her professional and personal goals. When we record together, we each bring our notes and perspectives to the table and have a raw, honest conversation about that day’s challenging topic, whether it’s gender roles in the household or abusive relationships. If you listen, you’ll get a nugget of wisdom one minute and a silly bit of banter the next! The “Happily Ever After Divorce” podcast isn’t just for divorced people — it’s for listeners who want to learn more about themselves. Think of the podcast as an invitation to do internal work, change the way you think, challenge societal rules, and start conversations with yourself, your family, your partner, and your friends. I hope you’ll give it a listen. You can find the “Happily Ever After Divorce” podcast wherever you get your podcasts or on our website at AtlantaDivorceLawGroup.com/podcast . –Sara Khaki

Here are just a few of the topics we’ve covered in recent episodes:

How to help your kids process current events

• • • •

Fantasy versus reality in relationships

Is self-love fab or a fad?

How to identify a toxic relationship

How to deal with mental health challenges as a parent

The difference between candor and brutal honesty

How to build positive habits after a divorce

I’m proud to be part of this podcast project. As much as I love working on legal documents and helping my team fight for our clients in court, that’s only a tiny part of our work here at ADLG. I’m even more passionate about the hidden side of family law. We’re really in the business of helping people discover their wishes, needs, and desires. Once that happens, our clients can navigate through life and build successful relationships with themselves and other people. You only achieve a “Happily Ever After Divorce” when you can look in the mirror and think, “I made a tough decision, and I’m proud of it. I have no regrets.”

Getting there is tough — which is where the podcast comes in! To achieve that

NEW YEAR’S TRADITIONS AROUND THE WORLD New Year, New Perspectives

SPAIN In Spain, you may catch some natives eating exactly 12 grapes, one for each clock strike once midnight arrives. Each one represents good luck for each month in the new year. In larger cities such as Barcelona and Madrid, they gather to eat grapes together in the main squares. BRAZIL, ECUADOR, VENEZUELA, AND BOLIVIA In these Central and South American countries, the new year is celebrated with lucky underwear! The most common colors are red, intended to welcome love in the upcoming year, and yellow, which is said to bring about prosperity. GREECE If you were to visit Greece on New Year’s Eve, you might see onions — thought to symbolize rebirth — hanging on the front doors of every home. On New Year’s Day, parents wake their children by gently tapping them on the head with the onions. PHILIPPINES In the Philippines, people use round shapes to represent coins that symbolize prosperity in the new year. Some even display round fruit, such as grapes, on their dining room table and, like people in Spain, will eat 12 at midnight. DENMARK To get rid of evil spirits, the people of Denmark will throw old plates and glasses against their friends’ and families’ front doors. Then to “leap” into the new year with good luck, they stand on chairs and jump off!

2023 has arrived, so it’s time to plan for the year ahead and set some resolutions. On Dec. 31, as the clock struck midnight, you likely celebrated the New Year with fireworks, parties, noise makers, the ball drop, music, celebration hats, and confetti. But around the world, not everyone celebrates the same way. Check out some of these traditions others use to ring in the new year! COLOMBIA Who doesn’t love to travel? In Colombia, many carry an empty suitcase or two around the neighborhood, hoping to bless the coming year with many chances to travel.

What New Year traditions do you have?

CHECK OUT THESE 3 UNIQUE ACTIVITIES WANT TO TRY SOMETHING NEW THIS WINTER? Throughout winter, we have the opportunity to participate in many activities that are only possible during this season. We can ski, snowboard, snowshoe, sled, and more. While some people fly south for winter vacations to escape the cold weather, others travel to extraordinary winter destinations within our country. Plenty of options are available if you’re looking for a truly unique experience this winter. Here are three winter activities that will leave you with long-lasting memories. SNOWMOBILE TOURS IN ALASKA Alaska is one of America’s hidden gems, even though it’s the biggest U.S. state. If you’re looking for unique winter experiences, you’ll want to visit Alaska. One of the coolest adventures you can experience is a snowmobile tour. You can hop aboard a snowmobile and ride the same path as the Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race or visit some beautiful mountains and glaciers. Many of these tours will lead you right past moose, bears, and caribou as you take in the beauty of Alaska’s environment. SKATING ON MIRROR LAKE AT LAKE PLACID Lake Placid, New York, had the privilege of hosting the Winter Olympics twice, so it’s no surprise they have some amazing cold weather activities to showcase. A truly exceptional experience is skating on Mirror Lake. They have a 2-mile-long ice track where you can test your speed and areas for people to skate openly or play a game of ice hockey. You can even participate in dog sledding there. It’s a beautiful area filled with various winter activities. ICE FISHING EXCURSIONS IN BRAINERD, MINNESOTA While fishing might be more commonly known as a spring or summer activity, you can get plenty of fishing done in the winter if you know where to go. Brainerd is considered one of the best places to visit for ice fishing enthusiasts. There are over 300 fishing lakes near the city, and you can expect to catch bluegill, walleye, largemouth bass, yellow perch, northern pike, and many others. If you like to fish throughout the year, check out Brainerd.

HATE THE TASTE OF WATER? Stay Hydrated With These Alternatives

ICED COFFEE How often have you heard that coffee is bad for you and will dehydrate you? Coffee is one of the few caffeinated drinks that does not cause fluid loss. It’s also 98% water, so it’s actually helping to rehydrate you. Decaffeinated coffee is the best way to go, but you can get the same benefits by

Did you know that 75% of Americans are chronically dehydrated? It’s a hidden epidemic that many Americans fail to realize is happening. Most people need to drink at least 4–6 cups of water daily, but Americans only average 2.5 cups each day. This leaves them seriously dehydrated, and they get used to

the feeling, so they don’t even notice it. For many people, the challenge comes from finding time in the day to drink enough water, while others simply don’t like the taste. If you’re someone who doesn’t enjoy the taste of water, there’s good news. There are other ways to stay hydrated. Here are a few of them. FRUITS AND VEGETABLES Most of us already know how beneficial eating fruits and vegetables can be, but they also help us stay hydrated. Many fruits and vegetables are comprised mostly of water. Lettuce and cucumbers have 96% water content, celery and radishes have 95%, and cauliflower, strawberries, spinach, watermelon, and bell peppers are 92% water. Eating enough fruits and vegetables in your daily diet can increase your water intake by 2–3 cups without drinking anything.

drinking regular coffee. Just don’t overdo it since too much caffeine can cause adverse effects. Limit yourself to one or two cups a day.

COCONUT WATER AND DRINK MIXES Many people consume sports drinks to counter

dehydration, but many of those are loaded with sugar and sodium, which both dehydrate you. Instead, try drinking coconut water. It has more potassium and fewer carbs and sodium than sports drinks, so it’s a great alternative to maintain your hydration levels. You can also try drink mixes that flavor your water and make it taste better. Be cautious of what you use, as many drink mixes contain sugar and caffeine, which can counteract your efforts.

Want to Crush Your Fitness Goals for 2023? LISTEN TO OUR WORKOUT PLAYLIST! In 2007, USA Track & Field banned athletes from listening to music during the Marine Corps Marathon. They claimed the restriction was partly for safety reasons — and partly because runners rocking out to bands like Led Zeppelin and Metallica had an unfair advantage over the competition. Yes, that’s right: Music really is THAT powerful. According to Scientific American, “Music distracts people from pain and fatigue, elevates mood, increases endurance, reduces perceived effort, and may even promote metabolic efficiency. When listening to music, people run farther, bike longer, and swim faster than usual — often without realizing it.” If you’ve set a goal to increase your strength or lose weight in 2023, add these fast-paced, motivational songs from our team to your playlist. They just might give you the edge you need!

1. “Game Over” by Vo Williams and burnboy 2. “Cold Heart (PNAU Remix)” by Elton John, Dua Lipa, and PNAU 3. “Another Night” by Real McCoy 4. “Enter Sandman” by Metallica 5. “Reptilia” by The Strokes 6. “Are You Entertained (feat.
