SHERIFF SAYS

Appreciation is an increase in the value of an asset over time. As Charles Swab once said, "If I like anything, I am hearty in my appreciation and lavish in my praise. I consider my ability to arouse enthusiasm among my people the greatest asset I possess, and the way to develop the best that is in a person is by appreciation and encouragement. There

is nothing else that so kills the ambitions of a person as criticism from superiors. I believe in giving a person incentive to work. So I am anxious to praise but loath to find fault." I found these words to be compelling . Let us maneuver with gratitude to a degree that pushes positive emotions and builds stronger relationships.

"With respect to the pros, cons, indifferences and the changes that we're doing here and what we're doing relative to the resolve of the same, I want to unpack it all in a way that we've never done before. I want to unpack those things so the understanding of what we have encountered, what we inherited and our plan of action is present. In addition to that, categorically, with the jail division, we're going to start there. There were some areas that we were more than concerned about and so what we did was partner with A&E to dig deeper and we have been inside the bowels of the jail looking at things that we want to be at a high level of integrity. Integrity encompasses what we do when no one else is looking and we've had an opportunity to look at those things from a 60 Days In perspective. This was an exploratory surgery. We wanted to go in, see where the concerns are and fix them. The result is a highly inspected examination of The Henry County Sheriff's Office that we participated in for the betterment of the Sheriff's office and its employees. As we continue to strive for excellence, I hope all of you will watch and share your feedback when the show premieres on August 18th." -

INSIDE HCSO

The Henry County Sheriff's Office has a new series coming your way! In the effort to operate in full transparency, Sheriff Scandrett will be addressing

your concerns in a series of conversations starting next week. We have encountered several concerns with Jail, Court, and Field and with respect to the jail, we partnered with A&E to get to the root of the problem. Please see that announcement on page 4.

GOODBYE TO OUR BROTHER SGT. FREE

Salute to Deputy Palmer and Deputy Cheatham for saving a woman's life. On June 30th, around noon, while on duty at the Judicial Center, Deputy Palmer was alerted to an unconscious woman inside the bathroom. EMS was called, but while waiting for their arrival, the female stopped breathing. Deputy Cheatham provided Deputy Palmer with an AED which was used to determine if she needed a shock or CPR. Subsequently, Deputy Palmer began compressions. After several compressions, the woman started gasping and began breathing. The woman was later transported to Piedmont Henry where a nurse later advised that she was stable and ok. Well done!

The last call for our brother and friend Sergeant Sean M. Free was dispatched on June 20th as he and his father Clint were laid to rest. A fiercely loyal colleague who served with great passion and admiration, we cherish the time we were able to spend with him and miss him deeply.

Sgt. Bruce Alexander recently completed his certification for A.L.E.R.R.T. (Advanced Law Enforcement Rapid Response Training) level 1 Train the Trainer course. With this new certification Sgt. Bruce is now able to have instructor capability to assist other A.L.E.R.T.T. instructors to train First Responders for active shooter situations. Also, being certified he may be called in from another agency to train others in active shooter scenarios. This is a 40-hr. course that gives him the ability to be able to teach. He enjoyed the knowledge and is ready to put it to use.

From : Ruth Stringer, Colonel Congrats!

When the weight challenge was announced Bailiff M. White was down for the challenge. When asked why she wanted to compete her response was “I needed to lose weight and this challenge was extra motivation.” Ms. White said she didn’t have a number in mind but wanted to lose whatever she could to win. She was out on vacation in Florida when she received the call that she won 2nd runner up for the females. She says, “I was totally surprised.” For winning she received a smart watch, and she loves it. If there is another challenge, she is guaranteed to be a part of it. Congratulations again!

During the month of June Investigator Calvin King made eight arrests. Out of the eight arrests, two were seven deadly sins including Aggravated Child Molestation. Investigator King also assisted with Narcotics surveillance and other fugitive apprehensions.

Both were held in our Heroes’ Cafè. A closer more united Henry is what we're striving for.

Training would like to recognize Reserve Deputy Gardner Mayo. He has been with our agency since 2017 and is a major contributor to our organization. Many people don’t realize that our Reserve Unit is comprised entirely of non-compensated volunteers who have full time jobs themselves. Deputy Mayo is usually the first to answer the call when the Sheriff’s Office needs assistance and he has a heart of gold. He always exceeds his required volunteer hours and often leads the unit in training hours. Deputy Mayo works full time with the Clayton County School System as an Internet Technology Specialist. NEXT LEVEL OF EXCELLENCE Shoutouts

Congratulations, Deputy Ford! Deputy Antonio Ford graduated from Mandate school on June 24th.
