sion. Satan can be expected to try to alter the Word of God as he did when he professedly quoted it to the Saviour. He questioned God’s Word in the Garden of Eden and he has sought to do so through some of the translations. He has sought to corrupt the truth of God in order to deceive those who read the Bible. Adhere to the King James Version and be safe, for it has no evidence of any false teaching. to gathering with God’s people in a church, where we can sing, worship, and serve together for mutual bene fit. On that day we may turn our talents and gifts to the glory of God, the honor of Christ and the ministry of the Spirit. Relief from necessary duties on that day leaves us free to assume the duties which will bring glory to God and blessing to our fellow men. We develop tem poral gifts during the week, and spiritual gifts on the Lord’s day. W e S hould M editate and P ray on the L ord ’ s D ay We need to take time to be holy. During the week we nlust rise early and stay up late to take care of im portant matters that need our careful attention. On the Lord’s Day, how ever, temporal duties recede from the scene in large measure, and we may apply our hearts to the Word of God and our minds to the study of His truths. On that day we have time to pray. Prayer invigorates the soul, enriches the heart, and makes life fruitful. Prayer brings us in sweet contact with the living God, and we carry the fragrance of heaven to others because we have been with Him. Let the day of rest bring to each heart a new knowledge of God and new service for the King. W e S hould S tudy the B ible on the L ord ’ s D ay We should not look forward to the day of rest as a time for picnics, games, and expressions of other hu man activity. Of course the ungodly use the day for that purpose. They have no interest in their souls’ wel fare, nor any desire to prepare for eternity, or to fit themselves to meet God. Their plans include present en joyment and personal gratification. Christians should use the day to know and understand the truths of God so that they may live a happy life, die a happy death, and spend a happy eternity. We are only of use to others in a permanent way if we know our Bibles and can pre sent God’s remedy to suffering souls.

N o Safety Here “The City of Los Angeles was carved out of desert, and to desert it will return if it is hit by an atom bomb.” Such is the word of one of the country’s foremost experts on atomic controls, Dr. Stafford L. War ren. If a bomb were dropped in the adjacent ocean, the city would have to be abandoned for several gen erations, for within three hours an off-shore 10 m.p.h. wind would con taminate a 30-mile-deep area with deadly radioactive clouds. Little is said these days about the ever-in- creasing danger to civilization of the atomic menace. But of the danger there can be no real doubt, and no place on the earth’s surface is safe. There is only one haven of safety and rest—the everlasting arms of our Saviour.

! In the modern versions an effort seeifis to have been made in some instances to make the text express the thoughts of the writer rather than the mind of God. One must read carefully the doctrinal portions and check them with the knowledge of facts as found in the original trans lations and in the King James Ver-

T HERE is no doubt but that all peo ple need to rest. The body needs rest from daily toil and the mind needs rest from constant problems. God provided one day in seven wherein those who, had finished their work in six days could rest on the seventh, for there: was nothing left to do. God finished His work in six days and therefore rested on the seventh. This is a type of that blessed truth in the New Testament that after the Saviour labored for our sal vation on the cross, He cried out, “ It is finished.” By so doing He provided rest for us. We should take advan tage of this privilege. We should lay every burden at Jesus’ feet and remember the invitation of Matthew 11:28, “Come unto me.” This rest of heart may be enjoyed seven days a week and entails no hardships. ; W e S hould L earn on the L ord ’ s D ay I The world has chosen the resur rection day, the first day of the week, as a day of rest from public labor. For the world it is not a re ligious day, but a time for sin and pleasure. We, however, take ad- yantage of the closed stores, shops, and offices in order that we may refresh our hearts and renew our minds in the things of God. Each day of the week the public demands bur service which we give con scientiously. On the Lord’s Day we are excused from most public ser vice and may apply our hearts unto spiritual wisdom. It is not a day for satisfying the desires of the flesh and of the mind, but rather a day for getting acquainted with the Lord, for revitalizing the heart, and for learning to know those things which are eternal. W e S hould S erve on the L ord ’ s D ay j During the week we are too busy with our work and all of its require ments to render much service to the Lord. On the rest day, however, we may visit the sick, carry messages of comfort and cheer, and look forward
