unfair, if they look at another paper during tests, other boys and girls will not want to follow their Saviour. Christian boys and girls are truth ful in their speech. People should never wonder whether or not a Christian is telling the truth. They should be able to know that every word that conies from a Christian’s

lips is absolutely true. "He that speaketh truth showeth forth right eousness,” and, “ Lying lips are abomination to (hated by] the Lord.” Christians must be the most honest and the most truthful boys and girls in their neighborhood if they want to win their friends for their Lord.

the following verse with only the in stinct of nature to prompt it (v.8). It has no guides, overseers or rulers to tell it what to do. With how much more reason should man act wisely! He has many guides: reason, par ents, teachers, preachers, magis trates, laws, the Bible and experi ence. Above all, he has the guidance of the Holy Spirit, who has been given to eveiy believing heart to guide him in the way he ought to go. See John 16:13. Man has a per fect Guide. "He also that is slothful in his work is brother to him that is a great waster” (Prov. 18:9). Consider the two brothers described in this passage. They are very much alike. One is a waster of time; the other is a waster of material things. Both are on their way to poverty. The Prodi gal Son of Luke 15 is an illustration of a man who was wasteful in both respects. He wasted his time and he wasted his possessions. And with what result? Dire poverty. This works also in the spiritual realm. God expects man to redeem his time (Eph. 5:16) and to make profitable use of the possessions which are put into his hands (Luke 16:9). Other wise, he will suffer irretrievable spiritual loss. “The sleep of a labouring man is sweet” (Eccl. 5:12). Looked at purely from the natural standpoint, this ver.se is true. The laboring man gets plenty of exercise and so develops a good appetite. He breathes abun dance of fresh air. Usually he has little to worry about in the way of secret enemies plotting against him, of bank crashes, etc. From the spirit ual standpoint, it is equally true. Those who labor faithfully for the Lord can rest in quiet confidence of the Lord’s approval. Whereas, those who are rich toward this world only, find no rest either here or hereafter. The actions of the ants speak of great wisdom. These little insects have no overseer, chief, or guide, yet what they do is very wise. They take advantage of the seasons and gather their harvests, thus providing for the future (vv. 6-8). The sluggard is exhorted here to rouse from idleness and sleep, and imitate the wisdom of the ants. But the sluggard says, “Just a little more slumber and lying down” (w . 9, 10). Such idleness results in poverty’s coming as a robber and want arriv ing as one with a shield; there is no protection against the poverty or want. Slackness in work wastes time (18:9). To be slack is to work only for the material reward, instead of the satisfaction in a job well done, and payment honestly earned. However good a vineyard may be, it demands honest toil if it is to pro duce fruit. The slothful man allows his vineyard to run to thorns and weeds, and even the wall protecting it is neglected. The slothful desires only present ease and takes “ a little more sleep” while poverty creeps upon him as an enemy to leave him in want. To be doing with the might what the hand finds to do is the path of wisdom. And to each man there is allotted certain employment with the promise that giving attention to it will bring satisfaction to the mind, and a measure of material wealth to the hand. In the grave the opportu nity is gone; whatever is to be done must be done now, and done with all the wisdom and strength one pos sesses.
