kind of friends would change the heart. But the writer of the psalm answered the question correctly when he said: “By taking heed thereto according to thy word” (Psa. 119:9). God’s Word, the Bible, tells us of Christ and His power to cleanse the heart from sin, and to save the soul. We will let this water represent the Word of God. As it is poured into the glass, the corks disappear. It is just that way in life. When the Word of God is received into the heart, sin goes. Sin cannot keep com pany with the Bible. It is necessary that we should keep the heart filled with the Word of God. We know that the corks of sin will certainly return to the heart that is only partly filled with the Word of God. The reason that many of God’s children are doing things displeasing to Him' is that they do not keep their hearts filled with the Word of God. August 17, 1947 B o n d a g e A n d B o o z e

choice when she left her people and her sin, to live in the light with the people of God. Ruth made many wise decisions, following this one. She decided that she would be obedient to her mother- in-law, Naomi. When Naomi told her to glean in the field of Boaz, she obeyed. As a result of her obedience, Boaz married her. If she had not been obedient, he might not have become acquainted with her. Boys and girls today need to re member the words of Proverbs 6:20 (R.V.), ‘‘My son, keep the command ment of thy father, and forsake not the law of thy mother.”

Objects: Two paper circles, a pair of scissors, a bright light and a black handbag. (The circles should be of white paper, 3 inches wide and 8 feet long. Adding machine tape is suitable. Color half of each black on both sides, the full length. Before pasting the ends together, give one end of one paper a full twist. Paste the other together without twisting.) Lesson: These two circles of paper remind me of two young women of the Bible, Ruth and Orpah. They were natives of the land of Moab, and both were sinners. Each one of these circles has black all around it, reminding us of sin. After losing their husbands, and experiencing great sorrow, the young women both decided to go with Naomi to live with the people of God. We will let these scissors represent the sorrow which came into their lives. 1 will cut down the middle of each and show you what happened to the two girls. The first one will represent Orpah. (Cut the one which has been twisted.) Look, she still clings to her sins and her old life. She went back to her people and her gods. We will drop this circle of paper into this black handbag, to remind us that Orpah died in the dark. Now, let us cut the other circle to see what happened to Ruth. Her sins dropped away, and she forsook her people to live in the light with the people of God. We w ill hang this circle around the bright light to re mind us that Ruth made a wise PAGE FORTY-FOUR

Objects: A tumbler, enough corks to fill it, and a pitcher of water. Lesson: This empty glass reminds us of a heart. These corks stand for sin, and as I toss them into the glass, I want you to name some of the sins which come into the heart. The glass is now full. Some hearts are as full of sins as this glass is full of corks. God knew that it would be easy for boys and girls to get sins in their hearts, so He wrote, “Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life" (Prov. 4:23). The Psalmist knew about sin’s en tering the heart, and he asked: “Wherewithal shall a young man cleanse his way?” The people of the world have been asking this same question for thousands of years and have answered in various ways. Some have said that education would do it. Others that the right

Objects: A piece of black cloth 6 inches wide by 8 feet long, and a pair of scissors. (Starch lightly, iron, and sew the ends of the cloth to- gether. Before sewing the ends to gether, give one end a complete turn.) Lesson: John, I need your help this morning in illustrating the lesson. I want to put this black link about your neck to show how people often get in bondage to the drink habit. At first you could easily throw it off, but if you would hold still, I could wrap it so tightly around your neck T H E K I N G ' S B U S I N E S S
