this one glass. There was a time in the life of David when, because of a great plague, he needed to make an offering unto the Lord. He was told just where to go to make the offer ing. When he arrived at the appoint ed place, the man who owned the piece of land, offered it to David, together with oxen for a burnt sacri fice. David’s reply is very interesting. We read, “And the king said unto Araunah, Nay; but I will surely buy it of thee at a price: neither will I offer burnt-offerings unto the Lord my God of that which doth cost me nothing. So David bought the thresh- ingfloor and the oxen for fifty shekels of silver” (2 Sam. 24:24). David was like this glass with the true tone; he was true even when it cost him something. This glass with the false note re minds me of other Scriptures. “He that speaketh truth sheweth forth righteousness: but a false witness deceit” (Prov. 12:17). And again, we read, “Lying lips are abomination to the Lord: but they that deal truly are his delight” (Prov. 12:22).

that It would choke you. There is something very important to remem ber about drinking. When one person gets the habit, he always wants someone else to be bound by the same practice. Harry and Charles, we will ask you to come up to help us with, the rest of the lesson. To show how others are often bound, we will take this pair of scissors and cut this black link. (Begin cutting two inches from one side, and cut around the circle. Then cut around the circle in the middle of the 4-inch piece. This will make an endless chain with three links.) You now see that we have an end less chain, made up of three black links. We will slip one of the extra links over the head of Charles, and the other over Harry’s head. All three boys are now bound with the same habit, by an endless chain. It is the first drink that makes a drunkard of a person, and not the last drink. If we want to be free from the drink habit—and if we are wise we will—we should refuse to take the first drink! It is well for us to remember what the Word of God has to say about drinking: “Wine is a mocker, strong drink is raging: and whosoever is deceived thereby is not wise” (Prov. 20:1). When asked to drink, we should obey the words of Proverbs 1:10: “If sinners entice thee, con sent thou not." August 24, 1947 A T a p T e l l s

In order that we might realize this, Jesus spoke a parable, saying, “A certain nobleman went into a far country to receive for himself a kingdom, and to return. And he called his ten servants, and deliv ered them ten pounds, and said unto them1. Occupy till I come” (Luke 19:12, 13). When the nobleman re turned, he was displeased with the one who had not traded with the pound he had left with him. We will let this large magnet rep resent Christ when He returns to earth. Objects: A work glove, a hammock, a piece of steel about 4 inches long and a strong magnet. (A toy ham mock can be made from a piece of sacking. Hide the piece of steel in the finger of the glove.) Lesson: What is a glove like this one used for? "It is used for work.” What is a hammock, such as this, used for? “ It is to be used when one is idle.” Much is said in the Bible about idleness and working. One of the reasons for our being told so much about these two things is because God knows that it is dangerous to be idle. We read in Proverbs, “Go to the ant, thou sluggard; consider her ways, and be wise: Which hav ing no guide, overseer or ruler, Pro- videth her meat in summer, and gathereth her food in the harvest” (6:6-8). Again we read, “He also that is slothful in his Work is brother to him that is a great waster” (Prov. 18:9). Further, in Proverbs 24:33, 34,

Objects: Two drinking glasses and a lead pencil. (One glass must be cracked, so as to give a false note when tapped.) Lesson: Did you know that glasses could be like people? These glasses look alike, but they are far from being the same. One is false and the other true. As I tap them with this pencil, see if you can tell which is false. Yes, this one does not ring true. It is cracked. The other has a clear tone. You do not have to talk long with a boy or girl until you find out whether or not he or she rings true. In the Bible there are many peo ple mentioned who rang true like JULY, 1947
