King's Business - 1947-07

NEW ACCREDITING ASSOCIATION A conference of representatives from Bible Institutes and Bible Colleges was held at Winona Lake from January 29-31, 1947, for the purpose of forming an accrediting association among the various Bible Schools throughout the country. For those who are acquainted with the academic situation which exists among Bible Schools and Bible Col leges, this fact will be hailed as one of major importance in the develop ment of the whole Bible Institute program. There are many reasons why this organization is most time ly; probably chief among these rea sons is the fact that there is a need o f standardizing Bible Institute train ing and curricula in order that the Christian public may have a more adequate idea of what has been learned by the time the young peo ple have graduated. Many Bible Institute trained stu dents are going into further educa tional training by attending colleges and universities across the land. It is necessary that these educational institutions be informed as to the scholastic standards of the institutes from which these young people come. With these facts in mind, repre sentatives from the Moody Bible In stitute, National Bible Institute, Philadelphia School of the Bible, Providence Bible Institute, Denver Bible College, Fort Wayne Bible In stitute, Kansas City Bible College, and the Bible Institute of Los An geles met and drew up plans for a temporary organization. The name of this new organization is “The Ameri can Association of Bible Schools: the Accrediting Agency of Bible Insti tutes and Bible Colleges." Standards were adopted, corre sponding as closely as possible with ■those set forth in the various accred iting organizations among colleges and universities throughout the land. The need for such unified standards and programs for the Bible Schools is widely recognized. It is to be hoped that this organization will prove to be the solution to that need. The officers elected at Winona are: President, Dr. S. H. Sutherland, Bible Institute of Los Angeles; Vice-Presi dent, Dr. Wm. C. Culbertson, Moody Bible Institute; Secretary-Treasurer, Rev. Terrelle B. Crum, Providence Bible Institute; and Chairman of the Constitutional Committee, Dr. Earle G. Griffith, National Bible Institute. The next meeting of the organiza tion will be held at Winona Lake on October 14-16, 1947. T H E K I N G ' S B U S I N E S S
