of the nation o f Israel. I am placing à triangle marked “ GOD” in the cen ter of the circle. [Place with the point up.] It has always been (Soil’s de sire to dwèll in the midst of His peo ple Israel, in order that they might worship Him and live righteously. The nation of Israel was sinful and worldly. Therefore, they needed some one to teach them God’s plan of sal--' vation, and to offer sacrifices for their sins. You will notice that the trian gle, representing God, in the middle bf the circle, does not touch the sides of the circle. In order that God might reach the nation of Israel, and that they in turn might reach Him through sacrifices and offerings, He institut ed thè priesthood. Here we have another triangle marked “PRIEST.” You will notice that it reaches from God to the na tion of Israel. The priests, being human and sin ful, did not always'do that which was right in the sight of God. Eli is an example of the priest’s failure. Be cause of Eli’s failure, the Lord said to him, “I will raise me up a faithful priest, that shall do according to that which is in mine heart and in my mind: and I will build him a sure house; and he shall walk before mine anointed for ever” (1 Sam. 2:35). Concerning our Lord it was written: “For we have not a high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin” (Heb. 4:15). Next week we shall see how God tried another method of reaching Is rael.

LESSON STORY: Hannah felt that way, too. For a long time she 'had had no children. Her husband gave her many gifts, but still she longed for a child more than for anything else. Hannah knew, tod, that her people would need a true man of God to -lead them; perhaps she thought that if God would give ■her a son, he might grow up to be that kind of leader. When she went to the house of the Lord to worship Him, she prayed for a son. And as she prayed, she cried —she wanted the baby that much. She made a veiy important promise to the Lord (cf. 1:11). The.Lord answered Hannah’s pray er. To Hannah, Baby Samuel was more precious than anything else on earth, but she did not forget her promise to God about him. When Samuel was old enough to be away from his mother—though he was still a very small boy—Hannah took him to the house of the Lord with her. There she spoke to Eli, the, minister. (Read vs. 27, 28.) Samuel, was to grow up in the house of the Lord, and to help in the .work there.: There he would learn to be a true follower of the Lord. That is what Hannah wanted most. :Then Samuel’s mother p r a y e d again, but this time she did not cry. Her happy song of praise began: “My heart rejoiceth in the Lord . . . I re joice in thy. salvation” (2:1). She. w;as happy because the Lore} had giv en her a precious gift—and she had ■ . :v '" • ' ’ ¿MLk t-

given that gift right back to Him. When we do that, we are always happy.
