OBJECTS: The circle and triangles used irt the last two lessons, another triangle the same size, mounted on flannelr on which the word “KING” is printed, and a red paper cross 16 inches high by 13 inches wide. (On one side of the cross, print “PRIEST, PROPHET, and KING.” ) . LESSON: Before we begin today’s lesson we will put the circle and tri- ' angles from the last two lessons on the board. The center triangle rep resents God, and the two other trian gles illustrate hOw. God sought to reach His people .through priests and prophets. We have a new triangle this morn ing with the word “KING” on it, and we shall place it below the others. [The four triangles together make one large triangle, with the three points touching the circle.] Qod knew that Israel wanted a king like other nations had. Knowing that it would be better for Him to choose their king than for them to choose one, the Lord sent Samuel to anoint the son of Kish as king. If we were to tell you the whole story of king Saul’s life it would be very sad, for while he started out as a humble young man, he died a very proud and „sinful king. However, some of Israel’s kings were good rul ers, and through them, God was able to reach the nation. Because of the sinfulness of the people as well as that of the kings, the rule of kings in Israel did not ac complish all that God desired. 'As we have studied these lessons we have noticed that, due to sin, none of these three methods of reaching Israel were entirely satisfactory. It was, therefore, necessary for the Lord Jesus Christ to come into the- world and to die on the cross. We will place this red cross, representing Him, over ^ the triangle. [Pin to the board.] As we turn the cross over, we see what Christ is now to all who believe in Him as Saviour, and what He will be to the nation of Israel when He returns to rule and reign on the earth —PROPHET, PRIEST, and KING.

LESSON STORY: The Lord’s peo ple, the children of Israel, were like that. They wanted a man to be their king, because the other people they knew had kings to rule over them. The heavenly Father wanted to be their only Leader, and He would be the best One they ever could have. But when the people coaxed for a king, God gave them one. Saul was the man that God chose to be first a captain and then a king over the people. He was tall and handsome, and he looked like a good man (v. 2). One day, Saul was search ing for sofne of his father’s animals that were lost. As he went on and on, looking for them, finally he came to the place where the minister of God lived. This minister was Sam uel, a grown man now, who had been a little boy listening to God’s voice in the temple. As Saul was coming, Gqd whispered to Samuel (v. 15) that Saul was to be Israel’s new leader. Whe.n the man of God told Saul that, he was even more surprised than when he heard that the animals he looked for were found. (Read v. 21.) There was a feast for Saul that day (vs. 22-24), and he and Samuel talked together on the roof-porch of Sam uel’s house. Then, in the morning, Samuelwent part way with Saul on his journey and showed him that he was the r.ew leader of God’s people. (Read 10:1.) Perhaps, all this time, Samuel was saying in his heart, as we do, that the Lord is the best Leader, as our Memory Verse says.
