AUGUST 6, 1944 A SOWER WENT FORTH TO SOW M ark 4:1-20 By Ransom D. Marvin Our Lord Jesus Christ has interpret ed this parable for us in the latter portion of the Scripture text. We are told by Him that the seed sown is the Word of God. The various. seed beds are the hearts of those who hear with differing attitudes. The destroy er is Satan with his evil devices. The harvest is conditional upon the way the Word is received. Let us consider the seed, the fields, and the destroyer and his devices. I. THE SEED (y. 14). The importance of seed is great, for the seed sown will determine the type of harvest. Only the best is worthy of be,ing sown. The Word of God is the best possible seed to sow in any person’s heart, for it is author ized by God (2 Tim. 3:16). All other seed, such as “the wisdom of the world,” is inferior and will bring an inferior harvest, and no harvest ‘at all as God counts harvests. Seed is tested for germination to determine what per cent will grow when plant ed. The Word of God is perfect and alone in this respect. It is one hun dred per cent alive (cf. Heb. 4:12, R. y .). Let us therefore know, believe, memorize, and usé the Word of God as nothing else in all our Christian work. For Those Who Have Topics
II. THE FIELDS (vs. 15-20). 1. The wayside (v. 15). Here the seed is sown in the hard pathway. That- is the meaning of the word “wayside,”- The seed cannot sprout and grpw, as it.ls not really planted. Because it was never truly in the
ground, Satan immediately takes it away.( Thus many hear the Word of God,, but do not believe it No har vest is reaped. ■ 2. The stony ground (vs. 16, 17). Here the seed is sown in shallow ground, but to no permanent giiod. It has “no root”- and therefore soon
