SECURITY 1: AWARENESS AND PREVENTION Career Outlook: Employment in the protective service field is projected to grow through 2031, creating on average more than 421,000 new jobs every year. 5 As the field becomes more competitive, employers may increasingly look for educated, qualified individuals. What You Will Learn: • Loss prevention problems and strategies to protect the private sector from crime, fire, accident, employee dishonesty, and natural disaster • An overview of the criminal justice system in the United States • Criminal justice topics such as crime causation, extent of crime, victimization, social and psychological theories, and various types of criminality including violent, property, and public order offenses • Human relations in a diverse society, and the current issues, social problems, and existing research related to culturally diverse societies • Cultural awareness, cultural differences, and diversity as it relates to criminal justice

SECURITY 2: PREPAREDNESS AND RESPONSE Career Outlook: Employment in relief services is projected to experience rapid growth through 2026, 6 while the demand for emergency management professionals is forecasted to see continued growth through 2031. 7 This certificate could prepare you with higher levels of skills and knowledge to pursue career advancement in this field. What You Will Learn: • Loss prevention problems and strategies to protect the private sector from crime, fire, accident, employee dishonesty, and natural disaster • The private security profession in the United States, including computer security, the organizational role for security, risk analysis, litigation, and technological advancements • An overview of the diverse field of crime prevention • Elements of crime prevention such as physical environmental design, the role of the community and the mass media, deterrence, community policing, school programs, drug abuse issues, and rehabilitation • The four pillars of emergency management—mitigation, preparedness, response, and recovery • The history of emergency management, risk and threat assessment, mitigation, preparedness, and the administrative functions of the emergency management program • The response and recovery efforts in the aftermath of a disaster
