TOMMASI DE BURIS 2010 AMARONE DELLA VALPOLICELLA CLASSICO RISERVA T ommasi has always been a standard bearer of the Amarone appellation, and one of the most important quality producers in the Veneto. Established in 1902 around the family home in Pedemonte in Valpolicella, the winery has grown and expanded into the choicest areas of the region under the guidance of the many generations of the Tommasi family. The winery is known above all for its classic approach to winemaking in Valpolicella, favoring elegance and balance, and paying homage to the winemaking tradition of their home region. De Buris is a timeless wine and a new classic. It is the culmination of the talent, passion, patience, and discipline of the Tommasi family in making Amarone, and an homage to the Valpolicella region and its great winemaking potential. La Groletta, in the municipality of Sant’Ambrogio is the vineyard site for De Buris, and is considered the epitome of the Valpolicella Classico zone.
Selected grapes are placed on traditional arele, bamboo racks, and then left to dry for 110 days in a room specially equipped with a ventilation system that maintains a constant flow of air and low humidity. The grapes are pressed in January and ferment slowly for 30 days in oak vats, using exclusively indigenous yeasts. Malolactic fermentation takes place twice in the first two years of ageing in Slavonian oak barrels following the phases of the moon and the seasons. The wine then refines for 5 years in oak barrels of 15/30hl.
“There is deep intensity here, and the wine reveals its bouquet of dark fruits, spice, leather and earth with slow momentum. It offers an elegant mouthfeel with bright acidity and polished level of tannins that can only be achieved with age. However, the fruit at the core of this wine is well preserved, and the wine tastes much younger than it actually is. Of the three editions made so far (including 2008 and 2009), this 2010 vintage stands tallest."
