Simultane­ ously entering an American college and a worldly church, I came to the conclusion that all my teachings had been simply a long list of ‘do nots.’ My parents set them before me on the assumption that I had been born again, and it wasn’t long before I thought of them as being ‘old fogies,’ even resenting the fact that they were responsible for my inferior status as a ‘Missionary Kid.’ ” Called now to a fruitful ministry to the children of other missionaries in Japan, this servant of God lays strong emphasis on the importance of a definite and personal conver­ sion experience for each youngster in his charge, and pleads for a faithful, patient application of all the means of grace at the disposal of the believing parent. Joshua warned the Is rae l i t e s against the day “when your chil­ dren shall ask their fathers in time to come, saying, What mean these stones?” and warned that one of their chief responsibilities would be to testify to their own offspring of the power and lovingkindness of God. Nadab and Abihu, the sons of Aaron, “ offered strange fire before the Lord” and were consumed in the presence of their father. The sons of Eli “ hearkened not unto the voice of their father” and per­ ished in battle as God saw and judged their sin. The sons of godly Samuel “ took bribes and perverted judgment.” David was a man after God’s own heart, but his pampered son Absolam revolted against him, paraded his unbelief in an unspeak­ ably vile sin before the eyes of all the people, and is presented in Scripture as a type of Satan him­ self. The Bible does not fix the blame for all of these tragic spirit­ ual failures, but we can safely assume that the fault was not with God!
