The 22nd annual Marlborough yacht race was held on Saturday 17 March in fickle conditions with 70 sailors competing in nine boats. Starting with overcast and gusty conditions, we concluded with a calm sunny evening. The Jeremy Turnbull (9639) inspired handicap saw a start with a 55-minute spread, and all but one boat finishing within five minutes of each other after two hours of close racing. The one that wasn’t in the close finish had won the race by 25 minutes. John Oswald (7333) was delighted to take the Two Sock Trophy in Supertramp after 21 previous attempts. Zac Ensor’s (7943) boat Paradigm placed second and David Grigg (9443) came in third in Global . The event concluded with the trophy presentation and drinks at the usual raft up in Kumutoto Bay. A great day had by all! It is with much sadness we advise that the energetic and enthusiastic Jeremy Turnbull (9639) died in a farm Marlborough Yacht Race
accident on 27 March. Our thoughts are with his family, and the wider Marlborough community of which he was such a vital part.
