Sian believes the last few years spent primarily as a classroom teacher have been very beneficial to her literary knowledge and teaching practice. “But I’m now ready to take on a challenge again, and am looking forward to being able to use a wider range of skills and make more meaningful curriculum-related decisions.” She is passionate about English literature, with a particular affinity for Shakespeare, the nineteenth- century novel, the Romantic and Modernist periods, Absurdist theatre and Postmodernist film. Her two-year-old daughter takes care of any spare time!

“ I will work hard in providing a service where students and staff feel safe and comfortable with talking about anything that may be troubling them .” Wiremu Gray initiatives and goals. And I’d like to support Maori initiatives being introduced into the school. I have a background in Maori Art, having taught Maori carving for four years at Lincoln University when I finished school. “Working in a new school always presents new challenges, especially with needing to form new relationships with staff and students. I’m planning to fully involve myself in the co-curricular programme and, by being seen in a variety of roles across the school, hopefully that will assist with staff and pupil engagement.” Wiremu comes to College from Christchurch Boys’ High School, where he had three years as Head of Guidance Counselling. He has also worked at Lincoln and Hillmorton High Schools. He lived in Brisbane and Waikato while playing semi-professional rugby. “I have coached rugby for the past 15 years – from children to teenagers to adults. I am passionate about rugby and believe it’s a great tool for developing young people into outstanding citizens. I look forward to being part of the Christ’s College whanau.”

Kris Miller

Recently back from London and recently married, Kris is ready to begin the next stage of his life and has taken up the role of Assistant to the Director of Sport – Head Strength and Conditioning Coach. In London, Kris worked as a personal trainer and as a strength and conditioning coach for the London Scottish rugby club. He has previously worked at Lincoln University as part of its sport scholarship programme and provided strength and conditioning coaching for a number of secondary schools and sports clubs. Kris is passionate about enhancing individual performance and says he is looking forward to working with our young men as part of their personal development.

Wiremu Gray

He is Christchurch-born, of Ngai Tahu and Ngati Porou descent, and is a former semi-professional rugby player. Wiremu Gray is also a keen surfer, a father to two teenage boys and accomplished in Maori art and carving, and he is joining College as Counsellor from Term 2, 2018. “I will work hard to provide a service where students and staff feel safe and comfortable with talking about anything that may be troubling them.
