ACADEMIC College plays host to international visitors

Fifty boys and girls fromQingdao Daxue Primary School in China visited College in Term 1 during a fleeting South Island tour.

As part of their programme, the boys, all keen rugby players had a two-hour rugby skills session they had with College rugby coach Ross Kennedy. He put the youngsters through their paces, providing an insight into the fitness and skill levels required by New Zealand’s schoolboy rugby players.

The group was also impressed with the warm welcome in their own language given to them by Director of Digital Services Paul Rodley, who had visited their school in China only a few weeks earlier. The girls in the group were happy to have a look at St Margaret’s College. International Student Manager Deanne Gath says such visits are always enjoyable and worthwhile

and add to the international flavour of the College campus. In May, the first student from Réunion Island, a French island in the Indian Ocean, will come to College for a short0-term rugby programme, and later in the year two boys from Portugal arrive, again for a rugby programme. At the beginning of 2018 there were 21 international students enrolled
