M a m a , c o m e take a look at my knee. It hurts a good deal this morning.” “We were doing some push-ups in Phys. Ed. the other day. I made a clumsy move and landed on my knee. In spite of the pain, I found myself smiling last night as I thought of the time your knee came out of joint, and Bob went tearing over to the study at the church to get Daddy. All of us kids were scared you were hurt seriously. It didn’t take Daddy long to slip your knee cap into place and re assure us you’d be all right.” “ But we are not proceeding with the problem. What are we gonna do about Da’s knee? You two get to talk ing about everything else but the mat ter at hand.” This outburst from nine year old Ardyth set Mother and seventeen year old sister to laughing. For one thing we didn’t know the little miss was within ear-shot of our conversation. A day or two later Ardyth heard Mother ask Daddy: “What kind of a day did you have, Dear?” Engrossed in a book of “ heavy” theological reading he replied absent- mindedly: “About the same as usual.” “ Daddy, that doesn’t answer Moth er’s question. Just what do you mean by ‘the same as usual’ ?” By this time Daddy was “ out” of his book as a half-smile, half-startled ex pression crossed his face. “What gives here?” he asked. “ Since when has this gal taken such an interest in fine points? Lately Ardyth has been persistent in wanting to carry through some of the conversations she hears among the older members of the family. It is a good sign of her gradual development and her desire for a “ talking” fellow ship with her family. Her persistence pays off. Perhaps Mother needs to be remind ed that her Father God wants her fel lowship in persistent prayer. He wants to be “commanded,” not on the basis of any personal whim or selfish desire, but on the basis of His promises in the BOOK.
