Ruth Smith ’49, Tokyo, Japan, is active in the ministry of Christian literature with the Evangelical Alliance Mission. “ Several years ago a Tract Club was started with its main purpose to teach Japanese how to prayerfully witness via the tract method. We now have over 3000 Japanese who are prayerfully giving out at least one tract per day.” Geneva Kosher ’42, Kenya, East Africa: “ Our work this year has been unusually challenging. With so many new staff members, we have had panel discussions of each subject and its methods, and this has done us all good. M y subjects are Kikamba and Bible. I also sponsor a journalism club, and our work is to pub lish a school newspaper once a term, three issues a year. Our latest College staff proj ect is revision of our Bible lessons.” Lawrence ’40 and Verda Peet, Tak, Thailand: “Verda and Ruth (Frey) have been carrying on the meeting for chil dren after school on Thursdays. Attend ance is not large, but several do come and are hearing the Gospel. Our hearts are grateful to God for the arrival of four new workers from the United States and they, together with Ruth from Switzer land, are busy studying Thai.” Searle and (Halloran ’46) Hoogshagen, Oaxaca, Mexico: “ How the World Began and The Flood are our first published Bible Story booklets. The Lord’s Prayer and Ten Commandments were printed in attractive wall plaques. This is our begin ning push on literature to pave the way for Luke and eventually the New Testa ment. This literature is aimed at those who already can read Spanish, as we hope to arouse interest in reading Mixe.” Paul Bayles ’47 is pastor of the Christ Community in Canoga Park, California. Carl W. Jungkeit ’AA is the General Missionary in California for the Ameri can Sunday School Union. His son, Dwight ’57, is also a missionary with the same Society, located in Santa Rosa. Carl's daughter, Dorothy ’54, is married to Rev. Ronald Cundall ’54, pastor of the Hessel Union Church in Sebastopol. This church is an outgrowth of the American Sunday School Union. Robert and Marjorie (Scoville ’54) Stiles, Manila, Philippines, are working with the Far East Broadcasting Company. “ Robert is the overseas program director for nine stations. I am staff nurse for about 150 nationals and approximately 50 Ameri cans.” (A baby girl was bom to Marjorie in March.) Foster ’49 and Marguerite ’48 Tresise, Oahu, Hawaii: “W e have seen the return of several of our former converts to the Chapel, after an absence of 5-6 years dur ing which time they were serving the Lord in other places. The Lord willing we plan to enter the Waipio Tract area in

the near future. After the transition, the work of Grace Chapel will be continued Sunday mornings, by Earl Wagner and his wife. We shall continue the ministry on week-days and Sunday evenings.” Joe ’39 and Wilma (Lambert ’43) Nash, Sudan, Africa: “W e have just returned from Kampala in Uganda. W e went there upon the recommendation of our doctor who thought that Wilma might need sur gery. However, treatment and medication have helped, and surgery now will not be necessary.” Arnold R. Jansen ’22, ’23, formerly of Brazil, Indiana, is now the pastor of the First Evangelical United Brethren Church in Pentleton, Indiana. Ben ’42 and Adelle (Ottoson ’42) Elson, Mexico: “W e have two building projects going on. One is called the Workshop Site which is used for linguistic and trans lation help. . . The Government of Mexico has made available to us five acres of land in Mexico City for our new head quarters. The land is now in our posses sion and we trust that the new headquar ters will soon be completed.” Richard and Lucille (Falconer ’40) Webster, Tainan, Taiwan: “ Three weeks ago we concluded the camp for American children from 10-15 years of age. There were 52 registered, plus 8 missionary coun selors. Dr. Donald Dale, M.D., led the camp. It was a new experience for me to be responsible for the food for 60 Ameri cans! The results of the camp were very encouraging. Some teen-agers in one town went to a missionary and asked for a week ly Bible study. A mother told me she wondered why her boys did not come to breakfast, and when she went into their room she found them reading their Bibles. After the American camp ended and there was a lull, the all-island college confer ence (Chinese) began in Taichung. Rich ard drove a truck load of students up and attended as counselor with 120 present. I just received an invitation from the prin cipal of the Girls’ First Middle School (High School) to teach four classes per week this semester. Richard plans to teach at the Boys’ First School. Then he and I will be in two other schools and he will continue at the university. That will give us each about 400-500 student contacts each week.” Robert and Justine (Schmidt ’30) Bogema, Nigeria, West Africa: “W e treat close to 300 leprosy patients twice a week.” Adeline Gordon ’48, Hsinchu, Taiwan: “ I am continuing my Chinese study and completing my art course, making prep arations for the literature work in Taipei in the future. I praise God for the oppor tunities to work on the first three primers in the Yami tribal language. I have helped with the lay-out art work cooperating with the translators in getting these ready for publication.”
