tians, and they said they loved Him. The old gander had gone off to his own pursuits, the dog was in the field with Grandfather, the cat was giving her attention to her kittens. Suddenly their beloved farm wasn’t any fun any more. “ Do you want to climb the apple tree, Kippy?” asked Lollie, but her brother said, “ No,” crossly. So they wandered around, silent and unhap py, for an hour or so. Finally Kip suggested, “ Let’s go in and pack our things for the trip tomorrow,” and slowly they walked toward the house. But before they reached the steps, Lollie burst into tears. “ Let’s tell her, .Kip,” she said miserably, and he agreed, “A ll right,” with a sob in his voice. Grandmother was sitting at the big kitchen table, rolling out cookie dough. A ll around her were cutters in a fascinating array of shapes— animals, trains, wagons, shoes, air planes, stars; there were dates and cinnamon, and nuts and all kinds of delicious toppings and fillings. She was making a lot of cookies, too, and the children knew why —- so she could send big sacks-full home with them. No one in all the world could make cookies like Grandmother’s. She looked up when the children entered, but she didn’t smile. Lollie could see this was going to be hard; as usual, she had to begin. Standing first on one foot and then on the other, she got out the words in a muffled voice, “ Grandmother, I’m sorry about the cobs,” and Kippy burst out, “Me, too!” But they would not lift their tear-filled eyes to their grandmother’s face. Then Grandmother did a funny thing. She reached out her .arms and drew the children to her, and laughed and cried at the same time. Then, wiping her eyes, she said, “ I forgive you, but you nearly missed the1cook ies. I was just about to put them back in the ice box and not bake them until after you left. You can’t bake cookies with hay; you would bum down the house.” The children’s gaze went to the I bushel basket, and sure enough, Grandmother had used up the cobs on the top, and was down to the hay. “ Oh, Grandmother, we’ll hurry and get more cobs!” they shouted, catch ing up the basket. Never did four little legs move so quickly or four little hands work so rapidly. Soon a heaping basket full of cobs stood 1

beside the stove and in no time at all Grandmother was handing out “samples” of her- fragrant baking, which seemed to melt as soon as the children popped them into their mouths. That night at the supper table Grandfather, with a twinkle in his eye, said, “ Children, did you ever learn Numbers 32:23 in Sunday school?” “ No, Sir,” they answered, and so he quoted “Be sure your sin will find you out.” Then they knew that Grandmother had told him about the corncobs and the cookies. “ I like First John 1:9 better,” said Lollie boldly, “ ‘If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse lis from all unrighteousness.’-’’ “ That’s right, deal-,” said Grand father, “ Jesús died on the cross that our sins might be forgiven, and if He forgives us, we ought to,'forgive each other.” Kippy was not to be outdone. “My favorite is the one that says God for gets all about the bad things we’ve done,” he declared. Then, wrinkling his forehead, he confessed, “But I just can’t remember where it is.” Grandfather was smiling broadly. “Maybe you mean Jeremiah 31:34: T will remember their sin no more.’ ” “ Have another copkie,” said Grand mother, “ Take two,”
