Document Reference: OP 203 Method Statement Skip Vehicle Activities
Compactors do not tip like conventional skips due to the nature of their operation.
• Once in position to tip. Take up tension on the lifting chains and check connections for security. • Move the bin to the rear of the vehicle so just overhanging the rear. • Standing clear to the side, release security clasp and lower lever to open rear door. • Load will discharge. WARNING: If any part of the vehicle touches an overhead cable - stay in the cab, call 999 and wait for the cable to be made safe by the emergency services and power network before moving – during this time warn others to stay well clear. Never touch the vehicle if you are in contact with the ground. Transporting stacked empty skips Delivering 2/3 empty skips containers is not in itself dangerous but can bring additional risks to a work activity. Empty Skips can be stacked providing:
1. They are nested. 2. The lift chains are attached to all skips possible. 3. The midpoint of the upper most skip is no higher than the height of the lift arms in the stowed position. 4. The stack is secured with at least two lashings.
More than 2 empty skips must be secured by ratchet straps and depending on the container size will determine how these are strapped. The company will not permit the stacking of more than 3 empty skips.
