A Day for Champions Each spring, hundreds of pediatric cancer patients, friends, family, local officials and celebrities flock to Embarcadero Marina Park North for a day of fun, away from the stresses that come with a hospital The 29th annual Celebration of Champions will be held April 27
in fun carnival games. Patients are honored for their determination and spirit at a special closing ceremony, and attendees are prompted to recognize the kids who lost their battles with cancer during a touching remembrance ceremony. The event, organized by the La Playa Unit of Rady Children’s Hospital Auxiliary, also raises money for the Peckham Center’s cancer support programs for patients and families. The Celebration of Champions has raised nearly $14 million since it began in 1996.
