Microsoft Azure technology: taking payroll to new heights (Moorepay)

‘Backed by the latest Microsoft Azure technology.’ Yep, it looks good on an advert – but what does it actually mean? We’ll be breaking down why we chose to base our Next Generation Software on this technology and how it’s helped us integrate our software into everyday work applications.

Reliable When we spoke to industry experts, we heard the same thing time after time: buffering screens, data not syncing, pesky on-premise problems and hitting ‘run’, only for it all to come crashing down. With Microsoft Azure technology, you can forget ageing infrastructure maintained by a frustrated IT department, as updates are ongoing, and done by Microsoft. That means limited system downtime due to updates, bye-bye sluggish screen loading, and one less thing for your tech team to keep tabs on. Microsoft experts are working around the clock, ensuring technology is robust and reliable. That allows us to deliver the software and screens our customers need, exactly when they need them. Flexible Opting for Azure technology meant we could submerge ourselves in the world of APIs. Application programming interfaces, affectionately known as APIs, are clever connections that allow systems to communicate with each other efficiently. They’re built to streamline data flow i.e. pass information back and forth easily. APIs have enabled us to connect directly into third parties and integrate into the systems professionals and employees are using every day. With over one million companies worldwide working with Microsoft Office 365, the integration was an obvious one. We’ve taken the basic, but often fairly time-consuming, task of booking holiday and put it in fast forward, all with employees never having to leave the comfort of good old Microsoft Office. So, what does that mean? No more splitting screens, switching between emails and admin, or hunting down the leave calendar. Now it can all be done from one spot. Employees simply submit their holiday requests directly from Outlook, only for them to be reflected in the Moorepay system and their calendars. Easy to trust From the people who process your payroll, to the engineers who maintain our software and the legislation experts who ensure we keep you in line with the lay of the law – we pride ourselves on being easy to trust. And it’s easy to make that claim when you’re backed by the very latest technology. We’re just at the start of our journey. Over the coming months we’ll be cramming even more exciting features into our Next Generation Software. If you’d like to find out more about our latest software and the technology that backs it up, we’d love to hear from you.

I hate to mention it, but I’m going to. The pandemic.

Across many industries, including ours, it brought with it a surge of digital transformation. For payroll, this came in the form of cloud-based software.

A 2020 CIPP survey found 44% of surveyed professionals used cloud- based payroll software, which meant that over half still worked with on- premise payroll technology. A year-on-year comparison revealed a 14.6% increase in the use of cloud-based payroll software, a number we can only expect to rise. However, sticking your payroll data in the cloud doesn’t necessarily mean you’re out of the woods. Yes, your team might no longer be tethered to their desktop, but there’s still the question of just how reliable your cloud- based solution is, and what technology is holding it all together. What does this mean? What are the benefits of our software being hosted on Microsoft Azure? When developing our Next Generation Software, we knew we needed good foundations. Without them, the whole house would fall down. Cloud-based technology is scalable, with the ability to hold huge volumes of data without the requirement for physical infrastructure and power, making it an environmentally-friendly and future-proofed option. There are hundreds of cloud service providers, with big names gracing the stage, like Amazon Web Services, Google and IBM. So why opt for Microsoft Azure? Because it’s one of the most secure, reliable and flexible platforms on the market, built to last, just like our software. Secure We know cybercrime is more sophisticated, prevalent, and relentless than ever before. Payroll and human resource data is some of the most sensitive information criminals can get their hands on, that’s why it’s our job to protect it. We have thousands of customers and their employees putting their trust and data into our software every day. Using a mix of vulnerability scans, pen testing and continual monitoring, we do a pretty good job of keeping it safe. Nevertheless, it pays to have the additional help of a global brand, and their people. Microsoft have over 3,500 full-time employees dealing with cybersecurity, investing over $1 billion in security every year. Combine that manpower and investment with additional layers of security like multi-factor authentication, biometric app logins and privacy payslip view – our security truly is belt, buckles and braces.
