BGB has been repairing slip rings for a number of years applying its expertise to its own units as well as multi-brand products. As rotating contacts, slip rings have components which are designed to wear such as brushes and rings and there are also components that degrade due to their operating environment such as seals and bearings. Structural elements such as the housing are often metal and have both large amounts of embedded energy and cost. BGB aims to reuse as much of the original unit as possible without compromising quality. We are able to leverage our design capabilities, assembly techniques and equipment and supply chain in order to restore slip rings to operational condition with a 12-month or 24 month warranty depending on the extent of the works carried out. As part of our commitment to the circular economy and providing excellent customer service, we have separated our repair and production operations to improve servicing lead times. This purpose arranged facility allows for storage, inspection, machining and clean areas for optimised work flow. New BGB Purpose Built Refurbishment Area:
Before the initial inspection, we work with operators to determine potential causes for failures and the symptoms they experience. This helps us both to manage expectations, reduce unnecessary transport cost and plan in emergency repairs. Once the unit arrives, we perform a strip down assessment of the assembly to determine likelihood of repair, necessary works and cost of repair. As part of this assessment, we deploy specialist equipment to determine ring plating, groove depth and potential brush materials. This helps us to determine suitable replacement parts, whether the rings could be turned down or offer appropriate replating requirements. As a manufacturer of quality, the feedback we receive from our customers and the returned units is paramount to continuous improvement. We have co-located our repairs facility with our design office so that the feedback loop and support services such as document creation and part sourcing can happen efficiently.
