Housing Choices Annual Report 2016-17

ROSELLA Building for people on the Autism spectrum In collaboration with DHHS and Wyndham Council in the western suburbs of Melbourne, Housing Choices celebrated the opening of a new respite centre for young people on the Autism spectrum in July 2017. The newly built centre, which was project managed by Housing Choices, is operated by Autism Spectrum Australia (Aspect). It supports residents aged between 15 and 25 who live in the Wyndham, Melton and Brimbank Council areas. Board member Fabienne Michaux represented Housing Choices at the opening of the Rosella centre. She expressed how important it was for our organisation to be involved in this innovative building, which offers young adults a safe and secure break, and also a respite period for their family and carers. The centre will provide respite housing for up to five young adults at a time, plus facilities for a full-time carer. It has three separate living spaces, which have been designed as calm spaces for residents to feel at home. Highlights of Rosella • The project was fully funded by DHHS - $1.79 million • City of Wyndham has granted Housing Choices nominal lease of the site • The project commenced in March 2016 and was completed in December 2016 • It is now providing respite to families in a safe and well-appointed facility • It fosters a sense of community in the Wyndham area.
