INSPIRATIONAL READS Business Books That Have Inspired Me

“The Introvert’s Edge” By Matthew Pollard There are a lot of business strategies that focus on extroverted personalities but not individuals who may have quieter characteristics. In this book, Pollard gives introverts a new angle on how to build a business and approach sales. Pollard explains, “For the first time, you’ll learn the process of selling that you can do as an introvert. A process that feels authentic and comfortable. You’ll learn how to be successful in business and in sales in your terms.” Proverbs, by King Solomon If you’re looking for insight on integrity, morals, influence, wealth, poverty, or almost any other subject there is, a proverb or two from this book will help create perspective. You’ll notice many times that one proverb will give one perspective on an issue, then about 10 verses later there’s a totally different take. As my wife’s grandfather used to say, “I don’t think there are two sides to a story; I think there are four or five.” Multiple perspectives are critical on any topic or situation. Proverbs is good for that. For me, finding new ways to create and fulfill dreams is the joy of running a business.

providing game plans to inspire and motivate visionaries and integrators to work together in a flawless system. “McDonald’s Behind the Arches” by John F. Love McDonald’s is one of the most popular fast-food chains worldwide, and this book gives insight into how it all began. The book dives into nearly everything a business must face from startup to growth management, including sales and marketing, management, and leadership. Although the founder, Ray Kroc, ran his franchise with little leniency, there’s no doubt he was a brilliant business owner. Love shares the story of how this now multibillion- dollar corporation started and the key to its overwhelming success. “Built to Sell” by John Warrillow Be careful to note that I have no intention of selling Integrity Tire, but what makes a business worth buying is the same thing that makes it worth keeping and running. Warrillow writes about his experiences with starting four different companies, building up their value, and selling each of them for the best price. My aim is to increase the value of my business, not with the intention to sell, but to ensure that my company will continue to grow and help the community.

For this month’s newsletter, I want to share with you a list of some of the business books that have influenced my lifelong thinking. Each book on this list has guided and inspired me; these experiences have impacted the way I run my business and how I operate as a business owner. “The E-Myth Revisited” by Michael E. Gerber When I was about 16, this was one of the first business books I read. It sparked my interest in creating businesses that can be duplicated and scaled with the right processes and people in place. Gerber explains how business owners often fall into the same trap and fail, but he also offers ways to counter that failure. The most important message for readers in Gerber’s book is to work on your business, not just in it. “Rocket Fuel” by Gino Wickman and Mark C. Winters In this book, the authors break down the roles of people who are either visionaries and maintaining relationships in a business, especially when there’s a partner involved. “Rocket Fuel” aims to help business owners better run and organize their businesses by or integrators. These roles are vital when it comes to creating

CATAN Welcome to the

If you’re tired of playing the same board games over and over, it might be time to start looking for ways to change things up. Here are four tabletop games you might not have heard of that are perfect for spicing up family game night.

predicting abilities. For example, General Beauregard Lee is the weather predictor for the city of Lilburn, Georgia. Staten Island Chuck takes care of the New York territory, and Lancaster, Pennsylvania, has three groundhogs of its own, which is probably due to its rich Pennsylvania Dutch history. Canada has even started a Groundhog Day tradition with Shubenacadie Sam in Nova Scotia and Balzac Billy in Alberta. Even though Groundhog Day is a holiday based on many myths, it still provides a great time for event-goers all across the world. You might not be able to fully trust Phil’s predictions, but the superstition and mystique associated with this unique and

Despite the fact that most, if not all, meteorologists place little value on a furry marmot’s ability to predict an early spring, the annual tradition of Groundhog Day is still one that millions of people love to celebrate. Because it is based more on folkloric legend than scientific evidence, Groundhog Day is associated with shams and spoofs of varying degrees. There are many myths regarding the tradition as well as the famous Punxsutawney Phil himself.

MYTH 1: THE PREDICTIONS ARE ACCURATE. Many event-goers put a lot of faith in Punxsutawney Phil’s predictions. Unfortunately, he is more likely to be wrong than right. According to studies based on Phil’s predictions and the weather patterns that follow, it seems Phil’s predictions receive an accuracy rate of only 39 percent.

However, that isn’t always enough of a precaution to ensure everyone’s safety. In 2009, New York mayor Michael Bloomberg was bitten through his glove, and subsequent mayor Bill de Blasio dropped his groundhog in 2014. MYTH 3: PHIL IS THE ONLY FAMOUS RODENT. While Phil is probably the most well-known ground-dwelling meteorologist, he is not the only groundhog with weather
