Break the Monotony of Overplayed Board Games!

CATAN Welcome to the

Family game night is a time when a family can forget about all of life’s commitments and bond over a good old-fashioned board game. But the old, tattered Monopoly box or worn-out UNO cards can leave something to be desired, and the classics might be getting a little dull. If you’re tired of playing the same board games over and over, it might be time to start looking for ways to change things up. Here are four tabletop games you might not have heard of that are perfect for spicing up family game night.

CARCASSONNE In this game, 2–5 players take turns flipping over tiles and playing them to develop the ancient town of Carcassonne. You can direct your workers to develop the fields, guard the roads, or inhabit the cities,

train lines between American cities as they can before the game ends. The system is deceptively simple, consisting mostly of matching colored cards to their corresponding train lines on the board, which makes it incredibly easy to learn. But the players’ unique strategies ensure that each game is a completely different beast. Break out your tiny plastic trains and start your trek across the country!

SILENT AUCTION AND BARBECUE DINNER

My four youngest kids go to school at Central Delaware Christian Academy (CDCA). The kids love the school and the faculty, and I highly recommend it to anyone in the area looking for a school. CDCA is having a fundraiser event this month, and you’ll find information about the event below. Enjoy an Evening of Fun On Friday, Feb. 22, the Central Delaware Christian Academy is hosting a silent auction and barbecue dinner. Dinner will be catered by Fat Daddy of Georgetown, and guests will enjoy delicious barbecue complete with mac and cheese, plenty of fresh vegetables, dessert, and non- alcoholic drinks. Dinner will start at 5:30 p.m. — all families are welcome to join the school to sit, chat, and enjoy themselves. The auction begins

at 6 p.m. and will be held at Southside Baptist Church.

The auction items include overnight stays in Ocean City, Dover Downs, and Chincoteague, Virginia, as well as class
