Happy Halloween Everyone!

So this month, I thought we would make it as simple and straight forward as possible by answering an easy question that we can all ask ourselves: “What is the ONE THING I can do to get started?” And the answer is……… WALK! Need a good reason to lace up your sneaks, grab a friend, and hit the road for a short walk TODAY? 12 Great Reasons to Start Walking Today 1. Walk to decrease your stress and improve your mood 2. Walk to decrease your low back and joint pain 3. Walk to prevent onset of low back and joint pain 4. Walk to burn calories 5. Walk to improve your circulation 6. Walk to decrease your risk of chronic diseases 7. Walk to decrease your risk of all-cause mortality (by 20%with just 12 minutes of walking a day)

It’s October. Fall is in the air (well, not somuch here in South Florida). COVID has us all spending more time around the house than perhaps ever before. And our beautiful, slightly cooler weather is just around the corner. I can’t think of a better time to be proactive in taking a first step to be the healthiest “you” possible. Thismonth’s newsletter returns our focus to Back Pain. “Back” in the July newsletter, we discussed the importance of having a proactive strategy to preventing back pain. Here’s just a quick reminder: 4 Key Proactive Self-Management and Prevention Strategies 1. Eat Healthy & Manage Your Weight 2. Maintain Your Lumbo-Pelvic Strength & Flexibility (think back, pelvis, hips) 3. Get Your Aerobic Exercise – Gentle and repetitive aerobic exercise is nourishing for the many structures surrounding your spine. Start light and gradually build yourself up. Walking is therapeutic for your low back and offers a host of other health promoting benefits as well. 4. See Your FYZICAL Therapist Here’s the difficult part. The 4 areas of back pain prevention strategies listed above might feel a bit daunting. And sometimes when things feel daunting, WE DO NOTHING! It’s not a flaw, it’s just human nature! But do remember, doing nothing is not an option. The lifetime prevalence of low back pain is reported to be as high as 84%, and chronic low back pain is present in about one in five people. It’s an epidemic and you don’t want to be a victim!

8. Walk to boost your immunity 9. Walk to improve your cognition 10. Walk to sleep better 11. Walk to improve digestion 12. Walk to live longer and healthier

At FYZICAL, we are your advocates for living a long, happy, healthy life! Enjoy your walk!
