MULCH MAKEOVER MONTH PROTECT YOUR PLANTS (AND MORE) THIS JULY
As Central Florida heats up in July, your yard is working overtime to stay healthy. Mulch is one of the easiest, most cost-effective ways to give your plants a fighting chance through the summer.
refresh, now is the time to revisit it. Here are five reasons why mulch is more beneficial than you might think.
1. It retains moisture where it matters most. With daytime temps soaring and rainfall patterns unpredictable, mulch helps keep soil moisture consistent. A 2–3-inch layer of quality mulch shields the root zone from direct sun and reduces evaporation, meaning your plants stay hydrated longer and you spend less time and money on irrigation. 2. It acts as natural weed control. Weeds thrive in open, disturbed soil, especially after a burst of summer rain. Mulch creates a physical barrier that makes it harder for weeds to take hold, reducing competition for water and nutrients. And less weeding means more relaxation for you.
While mulch is often seen as a finishing touch for curb appeal, it plays a critical role in plant
health and water efficiency. If it’s been more than six months since your last mulch
Hello there! I hope you’re having a great summer so far! I sure am, especially since this time of year is all about jumpin’ in the water. Not too long ago, my family rented a place at New Smyrna Beach. Ella, Gavin, and I had such a great time! I loved boogie boarding, collecting seashells, and watching the boats. My daddy says I’d probably be happy living on the beach full time. That sounds like a great plan to me! Beach season could not have come at a better time for me. I’ve been pretty busy lately as a restaurateur, nursery owner, and hotel manager, so I need a nice break now and then. Oh, you didn’t know about that stuff? Well, in my playroom at home, I’ve turned my tent into a hotel for my baby dolls. The hotel also has a “cooking station” to feed all my hungry guests. It’s quite an operation! Sometimes, I put Daddy to work helping me run everything. I’ll even “cook” for him sometimes. Keeping my babies fed and happy can be hard work, but I love every second! When I’m not at the beach or overseeing my hotel/nursery/restaurant, I usually draw on the sidewalk with my chalk. I’m also thinking about riding horses someday, just like Ella does. should always be cherished. I agree! Time flies by very fast
— after all, I’m already 6! — so everybody should slow down sometimes and appreciate where they are and what they’re doing. I hear adults talk about what’s happening tomorrow or next week, but they forget about today. Whether I’m at the beach or home, I enjoy every day. I hope you have fun this summer and do many things that will give you happy memories later.
