The Alleyn Club, now in its 142nd year, continues to provide much valuable support to the College and ever more opportunities for Old Alleynians to come together and benefit from a global network of more than 10,000 members. The Club’s President in 2013-14, Dr Colin Niven OBE Palmes académiques (OA 1962-60; College Fellow), showed tremendous support not only for Old Alleynian gatherings throughout the UK and around the world, but also for a huge range of pupil activities. Syd Martin (OA 1983-90) and Tom Saunders (OA 2001-06), together with Syd’s brother, David (OA 1984-91), must be acknowledged for their dedication in overcoming the inclement weather to promote the Alleyn Club to pupils and parents on Founder’s Day. A number of OAs must be thanked for their support for OA events in 2013-14. In November 2013, Lionel Barber (OA 1966-73), Editor of The Financial Times , hosted a reception for OAs in the City at the FT’s headquarters. Other pupils enjoyed visiting Old Alleynians at their organisations. Boys are encouraged to arrange Insight Visits as part of our Professional Insight Programme in order to discover more about the professions to which they might aspire. Many OAs are happy for us to introduce students to this end and, even just this summer, the Careers Department received full and enthusiastic reports from boys who spent a day or a few days with OAs, including: Peter O’Donoghue (OA 1983-90), Dr Dipen Patel (OA 1994-01), Dr Vikas Kapil (OA 1986-96), Dr Vish Saxena (OA 1977-84), Justin Vale (OA 1969-78), Sanjay Purkayastha (OA 1986-94) and Nigel Massey (OA 1952-60). Insight Visits for Upper School pupils will be arranged for June and July 2015. If you would like to be involved then please contact the Careers Department on +44 (0)20 299 5181 or elizabeth.soare @ dulwich.org.uk.
